Installing new Expert spindles and having a hard time getting the spindle

I'm basically trying to remove the spindles on my 850 18 and switch em with the Expert Spindle. I've removed all the bolts, but the old spindle is stuck on the steer rod bolts. Any suggestions on how to get it off? If I go to the instructions on instructions.brp.com it just says ""remove and discard the ski leg", but I can't get it to budge and have hammered on it with a mallet. Any advice would be appreciated.

If I understand you correctly...
This tool is really helpful for separating those. (You can put the nut back on and hammer it out from the bottom up and that usually will remove it. )

Yah, pickle fork or install a nut and beat it to death. If you are using anything but a steel hammer, it won't work. (Plastic, rubber.) Have to shock it.

Pickle fork will scratch the paint. An auto parts store may have a loaner ball joint removal tool. Doo also makes a custom tool for it.

TIP:
Apply a bit of hand held propane torch heat to the outer receiving area.
The heat will mildly expand the area just enough to help release the joint.
When careful, Propane torch heat will generally not harm the paint.

As for using a hammer, use a dead-blow or brass hammer.
Back the nut off just enough so that it is even the male threads.

Use a "ball joint separater", they work great and nothing gets damaged.

Your local auto parts store may have a loaner, Harbor Freight has them for $20.
