Installed SLP Pipe, Can, Head 3-6,000 Alt.

Talked with SLP today and they said they hadn't even tested from 3-6000ft yet as there hasn't been enough snow.

So they are selling something they have not even tested.....WOW. SLP never seems to stop amazing me...oh wait....they did not test it but they see a great imrprovment over stock and and extra 23HP....

this exact same thing happend to me when i first installed this kit on mine, but what i found was when i rejetted it one of the wire connections came apart on the mag side carb. it took a while to find it because it was only loose not all the way off. i hooked it back up and all is good. as far as jetting goes i am running the 540s in mine at 8000'+ and this sled kick a$$ now. (14.1 head)

they might not have tested at 3000-6000- feet but they sure wont lose hp dropping elevation---they test from 6000 to 8000 feet--hard to test on bare ground---they hadnt tested at 9000 feet when we got ours but they were close on jetting and they work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just me but if I were selling a product I would test it at all elevations instead of guessing at a setup...IF there was no snow I would not sell it to my customers unitil I knew it worked. I was burned by SLP in the past so they just left a sour taste in my mouth that I have never gotten over.

Good to hear you like the pipe and it works well. Maybe I will get to see one in action this year.

Is it that with the SLP head they're rec 540-560 mains?? I know the pipe kit from our dealer came with 500 mains (no head and 3,000-6,000 feet)

if they didnt test at a certain altitude and adjust from there we would have to wait till january :mad:for them to test and get it to production---we've been using slp stuff for years and have found it to be what they say---:D:D

Hey Mark, Who are you working with? You might talk to Swanny in Rose lake. Call me if you need contact info.

yea, but you have to know the secret hand shake to get the secret swanny treatment.

will i be able to get you away from burke this year michael? lol

Hey Mike, Ive been chasing my tail the last couple days just trying to keep up with work and the knucklehead kids:eek: The wife is in Atlanta hoopin it up with the girls, so if im lucky ill be tearing into this beast b4 sat. im hopeful the issue is just as simple as maybe a washer, wire or something dumb like that...If not ill go 4 plan b. Once I do get this puppy rolling well have to hook up and take you into the new secret spot we rode all last year (blindfold required)

Hey Tim, Yes let me know that place is getting a little tore up.

Mark, I bet is something simple. The jetting seems a bit rich but probably would not make run like that. Chauno's been wrenchin on sleds and would probably help.

We were thinkin about goin friday for short one if you guys a interested. The wife has me out of town for the weekend.

Mark, love to go with ya (blindfolded of couse) I have a couple spots you might like to see too. (Tim, already knows all spots does not need blindfold)

blindfold me, drop me off and lets see if i can get home. lol

talked to swanny last night. His new shop sounds sweet. Most of my junk will be to dirty for his new floor though. lol

Damn, Im looking at least 14" on the back patio. Looks like we might just get some snow after all. Wont be able to make the friday session but would love to hook up maybe sat or next week for a little stuck fest rally if the freshies keep rolling. Have fun, just leave a little sliver for us working folk ok.

Listen guys: CLUTCHES DON'T LIE. If you do a bunch of re-SLP'ing and you have to lower lower clutch weight....LESS POWER. If you have to add spring rate...LESS POWER. I've read a ton of SLP pipe/Y-pipe threads between here and DT and ya know what? Yer lucky if you aren't losing HP.

I personally have run rktek, turboal, boondockers nitrous and slp stuff. The slp stuff may not make the most horsepower but it is definetly the most consistent best running power combo available. To say they are loosing hp running a ypipe and head is insane!

LOL...only if I could get her to just run first.

Less weight does not nessacarly mean less power. It all depends on helix, ramp profile, spring selection. I just went to a different setup in my stock XP and took 4 grams of pin weight out and it's shifts much harder with less pin weight. many factors. Many guys get in a braggin contest on who has the most primary weight...All you need is enough to make the primary shift...anything over that and you are robbing HP.

I know what you're saying TJ....but a lot of guys are throwing this SLP stuff on, wondering why it seems sluggish, then taking 2g (or more) out of the pins, then claiming, "wow, it really pulls now".....even though they're pulling the same RPM as before.....

I'm with Dave on this one... If you have XYZ set up in your clutch and then change an engine part pipe/head/jets what ever, (without touching the clutch setup) and then fire the sled up and it pulls less rpm than before you made the change (engine mod) then you have just lost HP my friend...

Now, that is not to say the mod you made is no good, your setup my be off. Example= you install your new pipe and it revs less than before... But then you find out that the new pipe requires more fuel (bigger jets) and once you install them your rpm increases... Hope that makes sense.

I know in the old zx days (01) a stock 800 sled with a dyno port pipe lost hp, but it was built to work with the other porting and mods Rich was doing at the time. Once I sent my jugs and head to him and got them back the HP on the dyno went from 134 up to 145. (remember in 01 the 800 came with a claimed 136 HP from ski-doo) It's all about the combo/setup.

we had 3 08's last year----2 stock and 1 with y pipe and head----drag racing they were all close---on the hill in good snow the sled with head absolutely killed the 2 stock sleds----clutching was same in all 3
