Installed SLP Pipe, Can, Head 3-6,000 Alt.

Installed my new goodies last week as per SLP. They recommended 540 mains and .040 shims for my setupo. Filled up with super unleaded pump gas and shot over to Taft, got about a mile down the road and the knock and check engine display shows up...shut her down and checked the plugs. They did look a little lean but not too bad. Started it back up and rode another couple miles to gain elevation thinking this could make a difference and the detonation sensor fired off again, after the second attempt. I decided to give up and limp her back to the truck around 5000 RPM. Another Minuit goes by and then the knock/check engine stayed on for the remainder of the ride back to the truck. When I got back I drained half my tank and filled up with some race gas my friend had thinking this could potentially make a difference. It didn't. Has anyone else had this issue or running the same setup as me??? Would you recommend going up another size on the jetting or should I do something with the needles??? Help a new guy out here.:beer;

You should be good to go. I dont have a good answer , i have heard of guys having trouble with aftermarket heads. Some have put a brass washer under that det sensor. What ever you do , your plugs are the key. Judge your jetting by them. Id say piston wash , but you do have a xp:mad:

I rode my xp yesterday with Slp full exhaust 3 to 6 head and im running 500 mains with 0.20 shim and had no problems 45 mile ride.

Had some trouble with pipes and harmonics on XP 800's setting off the det sensor. Thats the washer stjohn is refering to. Make sure all your exaust springs are tight and maybe try the ole' silicon on the springs to dampen the vibes. Hope it helps.

HA HA! do you have your cyclinder's Ported????? are the pipes you have on it need the engine port? I now the one i have need's a ported engine? but I Am still waiting on it so i can install? dont know if it would turn on the Engine light though... i say you call your local dealer or call SLP???? maybe i hope i dont have the same problem as you? i dont have the money to get my sled ported.. lol

Christmas is killing me!!!

i have the same set up 540 main mag side 560 pto side .030 shim. brass washer under sensor bolt. start riding at 2400 ft.17degrees f. 100 miles sat. no problems.

I'm running '09 XP:
SLP pipe/can/Y combo kit
RKT 13.5:1 head
0.020 shim under needle and 490's
Ran 3 days at 1500' (park lot) to 7000-7200' (alpine)

Just slightly rich but sled is still relatively new. No detonation anywhere, premium gas, no race additive.

Your jets seem way off, I thought SLP recommended 500's for premium ?

Hey Mark, this is Michael S. You might call Chaun over at Motion Sports. He knows the SLP guys well and can call for advice and maybe check your wash. Let me know how it goes. I have the 09 as well. I have not put the head and pipe on yet but I plan to. The head, y pipe and reads worked well on my 07.

had the same problem last year ,put a brass washer or make one also the sensor bolt needs to be torqued to 8 pounds i think, call your dealer.we did this and no problem.

what elevation you ride--we are at 8000 feet plus with the 6000 to 8000 head and run 500's and no shim--we tried the shim and its too much

Yes, it does seem like it would be rich. I checked the plugs and they were a little lean if anything?? Talked with SLP today and they said they hadn't even tested from 3-6000ft yet as there hasn't been enough snow. The setup is the result of recommendations from out in the field from what the "guys have been telling us" Said they were sending someone into Montana or something like that to do the testing this week and should have the actual recommendations maybe this next week. I do appreciate the great input from everyone and am going to try bringing the sled in to have the computer reset then ill give it the brass monkey. Keep ya posted.

Michael...WAZZZZZUPPPPP

as far as compression, you should be fine, i have ridden 13.5:1 on my RKT 738 on iffy premium at 3000-7000 and never had a problem with it. Seems like the sensor is tripping for no reason, definately do something about that, but i really doubt your getting detonation, especially if your running race and it still happened.

I would not recommend making any adjustments* on jetting based off guys running RKT heads. They are vastly different than the SLP domes. The slps need more fuel. As far as detonation goes, I've seen a lot of post from guys with after market heads having deto problems. As mentioned above, not sure if its real deto, or the sensor picking up other vibrations. The 08/09 doo deto sensor is very sensitive. Some have had to mount in a different place to get it to stop going off. You find an answer let us know.

Hey Mark, Who are you working with? You might talk to Swanny in Rose lake. Call me if you need contact info.
