Installation and Review: Mountain Performance Inc, Stage 1 & 2 Supercharger

Quality of torque wrench is not so important to hit say 50ft/lbs as it is that it will torque the same time after time. So while you may have it set at 50 if it is only hitting 48 its not as big of a deal as it is that it will torque that same 48ft/lbs 8 times in a row.

Also a caliper that will read the to the spec that your looking for can be found from www.grizzly.com for a good price. A good 4 inch dial caliper would be your best bet. The best way to check it is measure a standard such as a bore of a bearing to check it.

I have to take a full inventory of what tools I have, and which new ones I still have to go our and purchase for this project.

Now, from what I can find, this Threebond 1215 is all but unavailable int he USA, and I have found many references to using ThreeBond 1194 instead as it is supposed to be the same thing, only Lead-Free.

Anyone have some insight on this???

I know that you are talking about a snowmobile but there are a lot of applications in the automotive field that seal off things in a similar manner. The best product that I have found for sealing to aluminum mating surfaces is from Nissan. It is meant for the timing covers on all of their motors that run a timing chain. We now use it on any vehicle that is sealed in a similar manner. I will get the part number for you tomorrow if you are interested.

There are probably a pile of alternatives, but I am trying to understand why its so darn hard to get either
3M Semi-Drying 1104
OR
Semi-Drying Yamabond 1215

So..

As far as I can now tell.

3M Semi-Drying 1104 Unobtainable

Semi-Drying Yamabond 1215
Unobtainable

Threebond 1215 Unobtainable

Best I can tell, all of these were LEAD BASED and are no longer for sale in the USA. I did find places offering them for sale overseas though.

But with further research I have found the following replacement items.

ThreeBond Super 1215 replacement = 3M "08670"

3M 08670 T-3 replaced by 3M 08672 UltraPro
Which is readily available all over the net for about $6 a tube

ThreeBond Super 1215 replacement = Permatex #599 Ultra Grey
Which is readily available all over the net for about $6 a tube

Now I need to fire off a note to MPI and check this with them.

Yes.
I have NO idea what the part number is.

As for the accessories.
I haven't decided if I want to install any of their goodies "YET":face-icon-small-hap

Ya, you can get it in many places OUTSIDE of the USA.
but the cost is just plain STUPID.!!

I need to rattle MPI's cage and get an answer out of them on what they are currently using. Will give them a call on Monday since I haven't seen them jump into this thread yet with any comments.

are you looking for an anaerobic gasket type material? loctite has a good one that i've used on everything from sealing crankcases, to waterpump housings with no issues. it remains tacky where exposed to the air (ie seep-out) but it will set under anaerobic (airless) conditions (ie torqued down mating surfaces). the number designation is loctite 515 and it's purple in color with a pleasant odor to it. it permits minor flexing between surfaces without failing. might be a cheaper alternative to what you're looking for and is readily available everywhere.

Thats just it, I am not sure exactly what it is that MPI is after with their gasket. Since the Yamabond 1215 is not available, I want to know what THEY are now using as a substitute. If they are using the products that I see listed as the replacements, great. But if they have moved on to some other material we might as well find out now and not make a mistake by using the wrong product.

Use yamabond 4, have used it on every super kit i have put on (a lot) without issue.

Remember when pulling the side cover of the motor off have a firm hold of it, it will want to pull back because of the magnet. Also, your starter idler gear may fall when you pull it off, not a big deal just make sure you get it back in correctly. Also, when reinstalling the cover once the shaft is bolted to the crank, be careful to hold onto the sidecover as it will once again try and pull out of your hands and onto the motor and magnet. This will make it hard to line up the dowel pins and not sit flush and you will have to pull it off and try again which can be annoying. Just a heads up.

Just a passing note, for online orders, this was by far and away the best deal I could find.
The shipping on most of the other online stores was $7 or more.
