Info on Wintercreek Cabins

Can you ride in Feb from Wintercreek cabins. If so do you take Barber Lake rd.
until it hits the first turnaround on 130 and then continue on from there.

we rode up once Jan 06 - can't remember the route though. Even in good snow, we trailer now to save gas for the good stuff up top

I have been out there in January and in March for the past 3 years. You can ride from Winter Creek if you want its US First Service Road 338. However, the trail is not marked and more often then not you’re the one creating the trail (which can be pretty fun). But if you don’t know where your going it can be a little confusing and there are some pretty wicked side hills along the way. The side hills plus the drifts can be pretty nasty. You have to know where to get off of the service road and connect into trail T (I think its trail T). You’re looking about 45 minutes to an hour (or more) just to get to the mountain.

The last couple times we have been out there we have trailered up to green rock and unloaded it seems to be a lot quicker not to mention you can stay on the mountain about an extra hour because your not headed home to avoid being on an unmarked trail in the dark.

In my opinion... I would just trailer up and save your self the hassle of riding on crap snow or wasting an hour.

BTW.. Your going to love Winter Creek.. Its a great place to stay and Brent and Mira are always welcoming!!

I thought it would be a haul from Wintercreek. I guess it would be better to trailer. Its to bad there isn't a full service lodge that caters to snowmobilers up there. Something like togwotee would fit in nicely.

You can definitely try the service road... After all its just my opinion on it; and i know comparing riding vs trailering up i would much rather trailer up and ride until dark then be riding trails back home in the dark. The parking area isn't that far from Wintercreek.. I don’t know the exact distance but i would say 5 miles give or take a few.. Sure that’s not out the door and riding, but its beats rabbit ears or similar places where your driving 30 miles or more... The Snowy Mountain Lodge is a gold mine if ole "Kenny Rogers" would get his head out of his ***.

The bad part of riding from there is the first mile from the lot. If it has not snowed recently and has been warm in town you will be riding gravel and mud for some decent stretches. Once you get out to the side of hwy 130 is is no problem. I stayed there this past season late feb and we trailered up every day. Parking is no problem on weekdays, just make sure to get up the hill by 8:30 on weekends. IMO riding up from town just wastes fuel that can be used up on the hill and also takes up good riding time. If you dont want to trailer up, check out mountain meadow cabins. The only downside there is you can not drive your truck to the cabin. You have to park on hwy 130 and have your luggage, etc brought to the cabin via sled. They make it very easy with a huge pull behind sled so it is not much of an issue. I perfer being down in town and having a few beers at bear tree every night, and I am fine with the 4 mile trailer trip up the hill.
