Info on 99 Summit 670X?

My buddy is looking at a 1999 Summit 670x. It is all stock(136 track) and has about 3,300 miles. It looks in good shape as far as I could tell, started easy. A little dirty, its been stored with cover on outside. $1,500, sounds like a good price to me? Also, what changes were made for that year that are different than the 98x? (I used to have the 98) I was told they have more horsepower, how much? what other changes?

Any help is appreciated as my buddy is trying to decide today.

The '99's had a newer generation DPM, eliminating some of the problems that were had with the '98's. Some carb updates were done as well to help cure flooding issues. Other than yellow hood and '99 graphics, sleds are virtually identical. Horsepower should be the same as the '98.

If sled is in pretty decent shape otherwise, $1500 doesn't sound like a bad deal. A couple more dollars spent on a D&R, 144, bar-risers, and some clutching, and you have a really nice sled there...

i had a 98 and that thing was bullat proof! slap a 151 finger track and drop it to an 8 tooth or 7t driver and give her hell! it kept up with all the 800s in our area so you wont be disapointed! just pulll, go and have a blast!

Theres one downside to these sleds, the 44mm carbs that murder your hand all day pulling that throttle lol. It forces you too hold it too the bar so your thumb can have a break. Doo's number 1 motor by far

Oh yeah..

670x throttle thumb....I almost forgot! It only hurts the first couple of rides. Amazing how quickly that you get used to it. It is funny watching a guy off of an injected Arctic Cat trying to ride one.... :)

Whatever you do, do NOT go to the smaller drivers. It will be a racheting pig, and you will hate it. You can tighten up the track, and that helps some, but it kills performance. If you go to a 2" track, take the plunge and do a D&R.

i had smaller drivers and i had NO problems with the track ratcheting. but if you want to go the better route but a little more xpensive and time consuming go with the d&r

I had one...loved it. No body could keep up to me on that thing. I had some guy clutch it before I had a clue on how to work on these things and there wasn't a 800 poo that could touch me...Everyone we rode with had new 03 polaris 800 rmk 151's...flat open field race from a dead stop. within a 1/4 mile they were a dozen sled lengths behind no BS. I liked it way more than my 04 renegade adrenaline. I had that sled for about 3 weeks before I traded it off on my MXZ XRS. Now that sled was rank. Hope the new 146x will have the same fun factor when riding.

If that's your budget you won't find a better sled.

I have a 97 myself with smaller drivers. I did have some ratcheting and had to tighten it up a bit to get it to stop. I'm pretty happy with mine! Hangs with the big boys on MOST days.

Thanks for the info guys. He bought it today and I am pretty excited to have another friend riding. He tried to get into the sport before and bought a cheaper heavily modded older polaris, but he couldn't get it to quit overheating so I thought he had given up on snowmobiling. I'm sure he will want to raise the handlebars and later put a longer track on it. Now we just need snow!!!
