Indy Lite Speedometer Cable Length and Routing

My son's sled which we picked up a couple months ago is in need of a speedometer cable. It looks like the previous owner put one in the sled which is much too long. He also has it snaked around the engine compartment in such a way (with tight loops) that I believe it is causing the speedo needle to jump around and hang (but the odometer works fine).

I took the cable off the jackshaft where it mounts and ran it with my drill... the needle behaves the same way. The speedometer works fine on my drill with a finish nail.

Question... the Polaris part number is no longer available (3280113)... and the vendor sites list the cable I already have as being correct (over 70" long). What options do I have? How long should the cable be? How should it be routed?

Many thanks,

This is all of the of info. I could find in the manual I have:

That is perfect... just what I needed!!

Based on that drawing... it looks like the stock cable length is probably around 40" or so. I've been trying to locate a cable from another application that is roughly that length with the 5/8" round nuts on each end... but have been unable to find anything. I'm not sure I want to spend $40+ for a custom cable... so I'm considering building a larger loop into the cable I already have where the loop would sit under the engine. We'll see if that works...

FYI,

I plan on changing the handlebar set up on my son's machine next year & will likely ditch the speedo & cable.

If you're still in the market for a cable at that time you could certainly have this one.

Hi Merlin, did you end up swapping out the handlebar, speedometer, and speedometer cable this year? If so, I'd be interested in at least picking up the cable and speedometer from you. Please let me know. Many thanks!!

70" seems kind of long to me.

Without going out to look, it appears it comes off the drive shaft, routes under the engine then up along the steering post to the factory speedo head.

I may have a spare cable and speedo if you don't find anything else.

Sorry, I haven't been able to get to any of the planned mods. on the Indy Lite this year.

We're going to have to run the stock handle bar config. another season.

You're obviously in need of this stuff now but if for some reason you're still in the market for it come next year & I've got my old parts removed, they're yours!

Good luck in the meantime....
