In case you missed it, 500" Elk killed in UT

Could'nt have said it better myself!!!!!!!!!

#1. An extremely impressive animal.

#2. Big money "Shoots" (not a HUNT) are shamefull and degrade the true ethics and heritage of Fair Chase hunting for the common man, which is what our hunting roots are from.

Legal, public land, point system, auction biddinng - whatever ............... it disgusts me that some fat cat thinks he is a "World Class" HUNTER, just because he can spend ridiculus money and then CLAIM he actually HUNTED this magnificent animal, and took him in a fair chase method ........... riiiiiiiiiiight, go after this bull without his 30 highly paid groupies keeping track of it for him and lets see how he does.............

I spit in Denny Austad and Mossback's general direction.

What a joke, I'm sure Super Hunter Denny has well over 200k invested for a 30 min. hunt. It's a shame for the REAL hunters who spend countless hours doing what they love to see some douche named Denny "BUY" his way to a trophy animal. Nothing against the people that guide for a living. This is totally different. If u buy a hunt and a guide takes you hunting thats great. But for someone to pay for 30+ people to look for an animal while he is off jerkin his meat somewhere is BS.

For us that refuse to pay anything to a guide, this is no different. Sorry, but HUNTING, is not high enough on my priority list to pay anyone to help me.

I had a Sportsman tag in Utah the first year they offerend them. I drew a Moose tag (1 out of 2,700) which cost me the $5.00 application fee. I had 4 months to hunt. I had numerous OFFERS for help, but I spent almost 2 months HUNTING most of the northern mountains for a big bull. My family, little kids included spent many hours hunting with me. My parents went to Monte Cristo almost every night and will never forget that year trying to find a bull.

I shot my bull, a 45" 10x10 while by myself in 2 feet of snow. I stalked to within 20 yards through the trees and no one can take that memroy away and knowing I spent nothing more than gas and a case of 220 grain .06 bullets is satisfying. Wether he payed 170k or 1k, it doesn't matter to me.

BTW, this bull did not grow to that size in one year. There have been several preceeding years it could have been found/shot.

well, got a buddy who was hunting the same time frame (during hte archery hunt) on the MOnroe unit...was a little ways from their camp, has a completely different story than most who are reading about it on the net...(not that abnormal)

what impresses me, is that his bull made it as long as he did...Mossback had lost sight of him for almost a month, then found the bull close to 15 miles from where he had been hanging out all summer...

To me, the fact the bull did not get shot opening day, says a LOT about how tough it is to hunt these big bulls...

I think the rumors of how many people were stalking the bull are grossly exagerated, but again, not defending Mossback, just impressed it took this long to get a bull like this...

Supposedly there is another 450 typical bull that they are chasing as well...Utah, the land of giants for sure...but for me, I will take my DIY backcountry horseback trips in ID and MT...

You are exactly right! I talked to Wayne first person and thats the story i got too. Would you guys be surprised if i told you the bull was actually killed on the FishLake Unit? There is some rolly quakie/sage country between the two units that the bulls winter on, i actually found 3 different bulls sheds on it last fall, I don't know what side of the road he was killed on but he was killed in that area. you guys need to put in for utah, shoot me a pm when its time to apply, i can probably help you out with some areas.

I don't know how someone could guide for a living, i would go nuts, I guide about everyother weekend from september to november and that is bad enough. Last saturday, i sat and watched the public hunter on our CWMU( the hunter who drew the public tag through the state) wound about a 195'' straight 4 point, probably the 2nd to 3rd biggest deer i have seen on us this year, it was so frustrating, i would go nuts if it was my life to guide these rich snobs. I got a OBGYN from Wisconsin coming in this weekend, this ougt to be interesting...

no wolves yet in central utah?

Don't believe so, we need to get rid of some bears and coyotes before they even think about coming in or we are really screwed. The ranch we run on the Book Cliffs is CRAWLING with bear, if any of you guys draw the Nine Mile-Range Creek South bear unit, pm you can have free run of our ranch! we need to rid of a few
