In case you missed it, 500" Elk killed in UT

I'd like to see them score that typically just for chits and giggles. I bet it would still go 400. What do ya think boys?

only got a 377 net mainfrain according to wayne. he is one of the guides in the pictures and was on the mountain when they scored it. The scary part is, that there is still 1 more 450 plus bull here in utah that is still being chased

That bull is sweet, but i like the 06 Book Cliffs Govenors tag bull much better, if they were standing side by side i would have to let the spider bull walk..

The cool part about this bull is so many normal hunters like me and you got to pursue it before it was killed, unlike the big washington bull recently killed that was shoot before the normal hunt opened. All the archery, rifle, and muzzle hunters who drew the unit got a poke at this bull, it was fair game.

That's cool.
I wonder how many will come out and say they actually had a poke at him too.

really, i was under the understanding it took about 10 years to pull a tag on average, unless you could afford the govenors tags, or other auction style tags that utah is filled full of. I doubt to many normal hunters get to hunt on a regular basis in utah.

Well duh, its not Idaho. If anyone could hunt it then i don't think bulls like that and the Multiple other 400" bulls would be killed in utah each year. The limited tags, will not change, so instead of whining about it we should be putting in and hoping. Hey I know a guy who drew a San Juan Muzzle tag his first year... Can you say Lottery? This bull had hundreds of people with tags in their hands chassing it, some luck of the draw, some with max points.

2 points to make..........

#1. An extremely impressive animal.

#2. Big money "Shoots" (not a HUNT) are shamefull and degrade the true ethics and heritage of Fair Chase hunting for the common man, which is what our hunting roots are from.

Legal, public land, point system, auction biddinng - whatever ............... it disgusts me that some fat cat thinks he is a "World Class" HUNTER, just because he can spend ridiculus money and then CLAIM he actually HUNTED this magnificent animal, and took him in a fair chase method ........... riiiiiiiiiiight, go after this bull without his 30 highly paid groupies keeping track of it for him and lets see how he does.............

I spit in Denny Austad and Mossback's general direction.

Impressive beast for sure! If a dedacated hunter kept tabs on it all summer and shot it himself that would be one thing ,but to pay someone else to be tracking its every movement is lame.

I feel personal satisfaction that I busted my azz. Scouting tracking and gitting close using my own skills. My 2008 Archery Bull shot at 10 yards. I can't tell you how many other bulls I could have shot at 450.

I was told today that this spyder bull was released onto public land from a Farm, is that true?

no, that is not true...

You sure? I found out this Austad guy lives here i southeast Idaho. Been talking to some close friends that know him, and thats the story they are saying, the bull was unloaded from a semi in august, then those "superior outfitters" of mossback tracked this bulls every move. stayed out 24/7 keeping tabs on the bull and communicated with electroics, Then called the "mighty hunter Austad" from the feild when the season was opened to come shoot it.

I also am hearing that the bull has Red Stag blood in it, which is exactly what I was thinking when I saw those "palmatted" antlers.

Those palmations are sorta fishy. I think he's wormy.

well, got a buddy who was hunting the same time frame (during hte archery hunt) on the MOnroe unit...was a little ways from their camp, has a completely different story than most who are reading about it on the net...(not that abnormal)

what impresses me, is that his bull made it as long as he did...Mossback had lost sight of him for almost a month, then found the bull close to 15 miles from where he had been hanging out all summer...

To me, the fact the bull did not get shot opening day, says a LOT about how tough it is to hunt these big bulls...

I think the rumors of how many people were stalking the bull are grossly exagerated, but again, not defending Mossback, just impressed it took this long to get a bull like this...

Supposedly there is another 450 typical bull that they are chasing as well...Utah, the land of giants for sure...but for me, I will take my DIY backcountry horseback trips in ID and MT...

I fully understand what you are saying. I guess the country does need a state like utah, that severly limits the oppurtunities of its residents and a state like idaho that allows lots of oppurtunites. Which is more important to you? I like the ability to shoot an elk every year. However i am not going to deny, i will never see a 400 class bull here in north idaho.

Personally, i dont have the desire to put in for an animal that will take me 10 years to draw, especially an elk. A desert bighorn is another story though. lol

mine are too

mine are palamated too, I guess it was a farmbull too! LOL!!!:face-icon-small-sho
