Friend of mine just told me there was similar survey done in 2000? Here is the original email, might be worth looking into:

I could not find it off hand…. But back in 2000? There was a State Survey Done on the impact of snowmobiling…in the Southcentral Region (Mat-Su & Anchorage) it came out to several million that was spent on snowmobiling.
I am sure this information is still available on the State Web Site… just may take some digging.

We are just moving back to AK from Oregon. We have lived there for 15 years, and got very into the snow machine sport. Sadly, we watched as they slowly closed down a lot of the prime riding areas. Now the sled shops are having a hard time keeping their head afloat. Don't let this happen. Looking back, if more riders kept involved with the local clubs, and fought for their rights to ride, it would have made a big difference. Lets keep AK open to ride. Sending me survey in, my accountant will shake his head.
