impact or tether activated avy paks..??

just a thought..given that recent events have indicated that the avy packs have saved individuals when deployed and that the avy pacs did not save some individuals when the individuals did not have a chance to deploy theirs..why isn;t some thought given to some automatic deployment mechanism when a person is blindsided without time to deploy..?..even possibly a longer style tether attached to the machine that will activate the cylinder when (if) you get tossed..now im certain the rare occasion would occur that the pack would activate when a person is seperated from the sled in an non avy situation..but the few dollars to refill the cannister would be inconsequencial cause his 10.000 dollar unmanned sled is headind towards a tree or rock:D...anyway i don;t want to complicate this...would really appreciate if this thread doesn;t stray into should not be there in that situation ..etc..l just think that the avy bag manufactures should give some thought to circumstances when manual deployment is circumvented...and if other sledders feel that the idea has merit..??

I dunno, Too many times where riders get disembarked from their sleds while not in an avy situation for a tether or impact device to be effective.

Say someone takes a little spill early in the day and the bag goes off, then what are they gonna do, hope that they don't need it for its intended use later? Its that or carry around multiple cannisters.

Be mindful of your surroundings at all times.

Well first off.. the avy bag companies do not make these for sledders.. their primary market is the ski/snowboard spectrum.. although it would be nice to have some more sledding specific packs..

I personally dont like the idea for a couple different reasons..

1. for the auto deployment tether style like you stated above.. dont like the fact that something is hanging between me and the sled.. could get hooked on numours different objects cause most people also right in tight spots.. not just wide open..
2. for the deployment of the pack when an avy isnt present because of ejection.. I would have to carry 3-4 cylinders with me a ride....
3. for the impact deployment.. again.. what if i drop off a cornice and dont land soft or a jump too.. then i'm back to square one
4. for the impact deployment.. in some instances i'm sure that you could be swept away without a large impact at first.. before the avy picks up speed..

just my .02

I'd need a ton of refills that way. I'm falling off, hitting the bars, flying off sometimes.

ok granted..the impact idea has faults...what about the tether that you hook up when you suspect your in possible avalance danger areas.???

Yep. I fall off frequently, get bucked off more than I care to, and test tether/tekvest/helmet/whatnot once or twice a ride. I'd pop that thing so many times I'd spend more time repacking it than I would riding.

Know where you are, know what you're riding on, use what's in your helmet and you shouldn't have to worry about having to pull the handle.

I too wrack up a fair amount of air miles apart from my sled, would look cool though, flying over the bars then the air bag comes blastin out.
