I'm off for the rest of the year! LET'S RIDE!!!!

Well I am still bummed that I couldn't go on the ride. Seems like you guys had another great one. It was a beautiful day today and couldn't resist getting out of the house so, we did some trail riding over to Daniels. The foot still doesn't look good and I still can barely move my toes.

Thanks everyone!!!

Bummer Marty. We just got back to our cabin. The ride back was COLD. My face felt like it was going to fall OFF! So sorry about your sled. Hopefully your wrenching as I type so you can make it up before you have to go back to work. You got our #.

Didn't do too much more after I found the carnage. Pretty much got it ready to start pulling hoses and wires and all that. I'm hoping to have it out tomorrow depending on how things go. For now I think I'll just drown my sorrows in Budweiser. :D:beer;

That SUCKS Man!!!
I bet Wild Bill can get you fixed up. . . . .LOL

I'll be he could. Why don't we just take that little sumpin sumpin that he's building and drop it in my sled!! ;);)

marty - dude thats sucks sooooooo bad, and the worst is you're totally a good guy, let me know what i can do to help...that pic is so huge it looks like the piston pin is sticking through?????

Thanks Ray!! I'm sure I'll be picking a few brains throughout this process. I'm gonna be getting into some un-familiar territory here, so I'm sure I'll need some help.

Do you remember Andrew (alaskaguy)? had the same sled and same issues. Could never get it to run and had the same end result with his motor.
Maxwell had coolant issues all day today as well. Luckily we were able to get him out and back though. We have spare sleds Marty.
Keep in touch.

Yes, I remember Andrew. Rode with him that first year of the DooTalk ride. I'll probably be spending the few days workin on my sled depending on how things go. I may take you up on the spare sled offer if I need to just get away for a day. It's funny, as I was leaving, I almost pulled in to Bear River to see what they would charge me to rent a sled for the day.

That blow!
let me know what you need, I have all kinds of spare RT parts. jug, pistons, rings, clips, pins, even a crank.
I'm sure we can get you up and going.

WoW! Spare sleds and spare parts!! You guys are too much!! Hard to tell exactly what I'll need at this point, but you'll definitely be hearing from me once I get into it and figure out what I need. I'll be takin lots of pictures, so I'll be posting some of them on here as I go along.

That really sucks marty. I was lucky as hell to get out without a tow. Was losing coolant. Had to stop and refill about every 2-3 miles on the way out. Marty I don't work all week. With Jacobs parts, I bet we can get that up and running by weeks end.

Yeah, I'm hoping the damage isn't too severe. That would be great if I was up and running next week! I'll know more once I get it apart. That sucks about your coolant leak. Wouldn't think you would need coolant as cold as it was up there today! Did you get your gauges fixed?

Glad to see everyone had a good ride today!

All in all my day really wasn't all that bad. There are so many ways it could have gone way worse. I'm just glad it blew up on the trail at low speeds/rpms. I'm glad I wasn't way back in the trees, half way up a long pull or something when it let go. I'm probably more pissed about the money I wasted on gas and parking than the sled. I did make sure the trip wasn't a total bust though. I stopped in Evanston and loaded up on beer on the way home.

and you need a piston pin tool, dont buy one, we should be able to get one borrowed from a sled shop

This is the kinda info I need! When it comes to tearing the engine apart, my tools and knowledge are very limited. This is definitely going to be a BIG learning experience.

didn't we see you comin out of an Adult video store as well?

YES! Beer :beer; makes :beer; everything :beer; better! :beer;:beer;:beer;

Weird!! I swear we saw a very angry, skinny guy running out of some adult video store in Evanston with a ripping TENT in his pants and a brown paper bag and a sdi 1000 in tow??? So confusing, beer, videos! Ahhh, perfect single life! ha hahahaa.
Got to laugh Marty or we would all go crazy with sled issues!

Damnit!! I gotta quit wearing that NMFH out in public!! Gets me busted every time!!! :D

you dont need to remove the engine from the sled

take tons of pics/before and during disassemble.....you cant take enough:rolleyes:

start with:
1- remove hood and console
2- the huge plastic wiring/electrical plastic board thingy onto of the engine, disconnect/remove what is needed to simply hang this off to the side
3- the RAVE cables will be connected to a box on the elec/wiring board, just remove the black box and let it hang
3- drain the coolant somewhere down low, so you wont get coolant everywhere when you remove the head (thing with two spark plugs in it)
4- remove head
5-remove jugs, those things that the pistons slide up and down in
6- damage should look more clear now

Ok, gettting close to pulling the jugs off. Draining the coolant right now as I type this. I was able the get a small screw driver and lift the piston up a bit to see the carnage a little better. Piston is obviously toast, and looks like it took a little chunk out of the exhaust port.

Heres a picture:

By the look of that pic, I'd say crank, case, cylinder, piston and head will be damaged. You dont have to pull the whole motor, but you'll have to sooner or later, may as well do it all together.

damn that newer pic would make me pull the complete engine...

just pull the injector wiring plugs on each injector, this located down low and on the injectors themselves....you can still bring that thing to my house and have it completely stripped down in 2 hours....well, i can do it in two hours alone:rolleyes:

Wow, sounds like everyone has been getting some great rides in. Nice!

Sorry to see the toasted motor Marty. What a pain in the azz! Not to mention the down time. Sucks!

Once you get it apart take more pics, I'd like to see what it looks like.

Ok, I don't seem to making a whole lot of progress. Got the head off. I think it's be ok but I am guessing everything else is probably toast. My next question is on the oil pump. Am I going to have to have engine part of the way out to access the connections, or is there some other way to get to it.

head and the top of each piston look great.....but the thats not really any good news and your crank/rods/ect ect should be suspect

you should be able to get the jugs off and see most of whats going on or damaged

Well, I think I should be able to get to the oil pump now. Just pulled the jugs off. I think I can safely say the engine is TOAST!!
