I'm looking for a set of good bars

Hey I'm looking at replacing my stock bars on my sled this summer, and would like kind of a freestyle bend. I want about a 2" rise with a 7/8 clamp area if possible, but I will look at 1 1/8 as well. I have looked around and just can't find what I'm looking for. Could a guy use dirtbike bars? I'm sure they would fit with an oversize clamp, but hows the bend work on a sled? I'm open to any brand, but they have to be STRONGER then stock. I rolled my sled over to get unstuck and the bars bent. I don't want that again. What do the guys in slednecks and all the other sled vids use? That's the kind of bar I'm looking for. Any ideas? Don't want to have to spend my life savings though. O, and I'm also going to need an extended brake line, any cheaper ones out there?

I will be gone till the 13th, so post away till I get back, I might be able to check up here now and then, but we'er on holidays starting tomorrow at 7am. So I won't be around to much, but still post up what you thing would be a good bar.

Do they have any other name other than atv race bend? I was also looking at the fatbar? And the 909 dirtbike bar looks good too. One thing I forgot to mention before, is the bar I'll be buying has to have the standard wall thickness so my bar hooks will still fit.

Pro Tape Makes the best bars. I was jumping my IQR 35-50 feet on a snow cross track. I was hauling around because i was being video taped and i was about to hit the 70 foot kicker. 2 jumps before it my sled cut out and i cased EXTREAMLY hard agents the landing ramp. My head hit the handle bars hard enough to make all my teeth bleed, give me a concussion, break my helmet sprang both my wrists, tweaked my neck god enough to make it crack and pop every time I turn it 90 degrees, and to top it off all the damage to my sled after it flipped up in the air and rolled over packed snow 3 times at a good rate of speed....ohh yeah... there was no damage, my bars didn't bend, just got knocked loose. The only damage was part of my helmet sticking out of my Pro Taper handlebars and i lost an S on my SCS decal on the hood :(

I have wrecked and rolled countless times this year and there is only one bar i would put on my jumping sled and its Pro Taper. Not only do you use your bars to maneuver the sled, but they need to protect you, look good, be functional, and most importantly feel good to you. I must also recommend Moose grip warmers and Scott Grips. They will all give you the best performance money can buy. If you can’t get Pro Tapers get renthal.

We have what you need here at RSI. We manufacture snowmobile specific handlebars. Our Tapered bars are stronger than a 7/8" aluminum crossbar style handlebar. Problem with dirt bike bars are they are too wide and if you cut to narrow them it leaves no room for your controls.

Our Backcountry Tapered bar has about 3" of rise in the handlebar. This is the most popular for freestyle / freerideing. This same bar was used by Joe Parsons and Sam Rogers at Winter X-games. They also come with a snowmobile specific bar pad. Dirt bike bar pads with vinyl covers will crack and fall apart when it gets cold. You will need our pivoting risers or oversize clamp kit to mount these to your sled.

Our Tapered bars are used by the best freerider / filmers in the world.

I have the Renthal's on mine, love the look and function of them. They are a strong bar capable of a lot of abuse, yet feel really good on the sled. They have about a 2" rise to them, and are the 7/8". Bar hooks I'm not sure on, pulled mine off, but wish I could reuse them.

Anyone out there know of a brand that works with the thicker walls?

renthal atv race bend...they are about 2 inches taller and are wider then stock...i love them.... havent tweaked them yet

I have the exact same set as mountainflatlander and I love them! I custom built another set out of 7/8" round, 3/16 wall aluminum and I bent those when my sled wheelied over on me, I haven't bent the Renthals yet. I don't like the back sweep angle on the Pro Tapers (just my personal preference, the PT's are good bars too), I have found the atv Renthals to be perfect for my style mountain riding and my seating position. I have an 8" riser and spend 90% of my time standing so its perfect with the 2" rise on the bars, but they're kinda like ape hangers when you're sitting going down the trail. :) Trail time is minimal so it doesn't bother me. If you are jumping lots, get a 1 1/8" bar, no matter what brand you buy.

May or may not be an issue for you, but handwarmers do not work so well on aluminum bars, and bar ends may have to be different due to wall thickness.
I put stock cr250 steel bars on my firecat and really liked the feel.
I did have to cut an inch or more off of each side, and yes, controls barely fit, but the price was right (free takeoffs) and they worked great.
Not much more rise from stock though.
Also would need a big bar riser if swapped out for some mountan bars (mountain bars much taller design.)
Stock bolt on mountain bar bolted right up.

carmichaels are the shiz

i just put on the Pro Taper Carmichael SE (7/8) bars
cut off about 1/2 inch off each side and used the RSI bar ends
i also put on the ski doo 440 racing throttle & kill
didnt need extended brake lines or throttle
used an XP 8" riser and had it painted black w 3 coats of clear

looks friggen awesome dude, IMO

.

True the Aluminum sucks a majority of the heat out of the grip heaters. We have developed a Hi Power grip heater to solve this issue. Check out this info.

RSI’s Hi Power grip heaters will keep your hands warm in the coldest of conditions. Originally designed for our Tapered Aluminum Handlebars to get the heat back to your hands. Traditionally aluminum handlebars would dissipate too much of the heat through the handlebar leaving you with cold hands. Not any more, these Hi Power Grip Heaters get hotter than any other OEM or aftermarket heater available today. Universal 3 wire hi / low feature works on all 12 volt snowmobiles and all types of grips. Self adhesive 3M adhesive will not peel or slip when hot and installs in minutes. If you want warmer grips this is what you need. Two versions available, std rectangular design and an extended length design. Our exclusive extended legth design will extend over the hook portion of the handlebar. Almost ½ the money as factory heaters and sold per pair. STD kit retails for $34.95, Extended Length kit retails for $42.95. www.rsiracing.com , 952-225-0452

We also have Aluminum Bar hooks for Tapered bars and stock steel bars.

I just posted another thread wanting heaters for my TAG bars and now I see these, I'am going to give them a try if they work I could sell alot of these for you guys!!!

Well thanks for the thoughts guys, I only skimmed over the replies, but I will take more time and check up on some of these bars when I have the time. Kinda hard doing this during our holiday, all most impossible to find wi-fi it seems.

fill your bars with expanding foam.... trust me, it almost doubles the heat on steal bars, they get hot way quicker, hold the heat when you let got and just stay overall hotter. low will be alll you ever nead.

Here's what mine looks like now...

I'm a big fan of the Skinz Protective Gear (SPG) handlebars...

Got my set about a month ago. They are very nice!!!!!!! When I get them finished, I will try to post pics...

Well I looked at some dirtbike bars in a dealer while I was gone, and they did look a bit wide, so I'll stick to bars that are made for sleds. I don't relly like the SPG bars, I'm sure they are super strong, but I don't like the look of em. I want to like the way my sled will look with new bars, the RSI ones look all right, protaper looks like a good bar too, I'll most likely got one of the two. With the RSI heaters.

I just got off of the RSI website and I think I'll go with all RSI products. Tapered Backcountry bend bars, tapered long bar hooks, RSI/powermadd oversize clamp, high powered bar heaters, and the 8 inch RSI grips. should be a sweet set up I think.
