I'm considering building a CR 500, but want it to be EFI

Develop your own! lol. Its not magic, just takes a lot of time to build a map and get things setup proper. Honestly I don't see why guys are so affraid of carbs. well setup carbs work really well. Especially compared to the alternative of some sort of homemade cobbled together efi conversion.

Completely agree! Carbs don't break, no electrical pumps , injectors etc. I would be more worried about finding right side crank cases

I glad you guys are happy with your carbs. I just like EFI. It's an advantage to have system that tunes and monitors itself. I ride many different areas with different altitudes, and altitude isn't the only thing that effects jetting. Another advantage is your bike doesn't get flooded when it's upside down. Fuel injection is the way of the future(which is now). The only reason why manufactures don't put fuel injection on 2 strokes is they make too much money selling us parts for our 4 strokes. There definitely isn't any demand to make a kit to convert an EFI bike to a carburetor.

big honda fears

1. your 2 stroke up side down will not be a problem, buy a Lectron or Smarty, upside down just isn't an issue.
2. efi requires more computer time that most mortals can donate.
3 current efi are junk because they use 75 year old air flow control
4. lots of real nice running cr500's running around out there and no no efi issues.
5 took cat and johnson and evinrude and GM about 20 years to make fair efi..............got the time?
6. Go for it, Subaru injectors with some air control and closed loop system will work.

I agree, and thank you for your input, but this isn't what I was asking.
I want to know if there is a conversion kit for EFI. I had my fair share of carbourated 2 strokes and loved them all. I'm a 2 stroke fan, but a CR 500 with EFI and electric start like the 450s would be ideal.

Call service Honda for the electric start. They have the machining ability. Get your wallet out. Search u tube for the fuel inj. Cr 500 guy down in aus. Built one I believe. If u have the time and money do it

It's easy to over think the CR500 thing. I roll mine over all the time and it always starts right up with a few kicks. The key is a decomp valve which allows you to really spin the motor when you kick it. Starts like nothing. I find the 500 is very resistant to elevation and temperature changes. The jetting is pretty stable. Sky's the limit on a 500 from porting to billet estart cases with Liger 700 cc top ends. I know of 2 billet 700 cc motors being built right now for next year. They will be way over 100 hp and really expensive. They are cool for sure but they kind of take the economics out of the CR500. Once you start spending that kind of $$ there are lots of options on the table.

The problem is not the carb on the big paint shaker.. it's losing hardware from vibration. I'm very happy with my pulse injected carb on my CR500... it's the constant chasing of parts that vibrate off that makes it a tinker machine. I think I have FINALLY replaced everything that can vibrate loose with locknuts/wire/red threadlocker. I've had everything from coolant lines vibrating off to the gas cap. If I were to get another CR500 it would be in a steel KTM frame. Other than that I love the bike. I could care less about EFI.

LOVE the power. the pulse injected carb almost always starts first or second kick, even dead cold. I run it from 3k-10k without touching the carb

Don't think there is a kit specific conversion. But a couple years back I converted my Yamaha banshee into efi and I ordered my parts off of www.ecotrons.com if you wanted to convert your cr500 to efi I would send them a email. Just a warning if you are going to do it its a lot of work to get it tuned properly if you have Experience with a efi tuning software than it might not be that hard for you. But for that efi system you need a 12 volt DC charging system you will also have to mount a battery for the efi kit. If it was me I would just run the carb it takes hundreds of hours to build a nice efi system that will work well.
