First salute from my BIL

Tradition is to give the enlisted member who gives your fist salute a silver dollar. I gave my BIL a USMC commemorative silver dollar, but also bought and had a Ka-Bar engraved for him. I had engraved on it:

GySgt Nichols
Semper Fidelis Brother
2ndLt Moore
20 March 2009

He's really the main reason I started looking at becoming a Marine, as he's been so successful in the Corps and loves it so much...I just got my bars before him :D He goes to OCS in July and will get commissioned after he graduates college in a couple years. :D I think he gagged a little when he called me Sir yesterday...

We always loved ensigns (navy equivalent).
We could convince them to do just about anything as long as we made it sound official.

1000' of flight line. The 3/8" stuff, non of that little garbage.

Hate to say this, but i know he gagged, it's hard after his i'm sure its been 8-11 years of service to call the newbie a sir! but sir, you earned it, and deserve it. just be one of the cool officers and you will be respected, dont let it get to your head that you got the bars, cuz you will lose all respect of those enlisted.
