And were to buy a used sled, what would you be looking for?

I'm 5.10" 180lbs, 25yo and I've been riding all my life, but stopped riding in 04' and picked up Skiing, My last sled I rode was an 02 Summit 600 Which I liked but can't really access the places I want to. The primary use of my new sled is to use it to get to places to go skiing, but don't get me wrong I love highmarking and all that stuff, and miss it dearly.

I've noticed that these kinda sleds are in my range (and finding facts on old sleds is a pain in the ***):
M6/M7
04-05 Rev (whats the difference between a rev and a summit?)
Polaris edge II chassis sleds (I used to have a 500rmk edge II, should i stay away? :face-icon-small-con)

Also I've been noticing the miles on most of them are in the 2000 range, should I be worried about reliability issues with any of them? Any other niche's I should look for?

Thanks all for your time and help, it's much appreciated, Please don't tell me AC Sucks, Polaris Sucks, Ski-Doo sucks, buy a snowhawk, blah blah blah if you tell me why you like a specific one, could you please tell me why?

Like I said, thanks for your help and time, I'll buy you a :present: or :present::present::present::present: if you help me out.

You should be able to find an M7/M8 in your price range. If you go with an M8 it may have a few more miles. I can't comment much on the older doo's and Polaris's but the M7 and M8's are usually pretty solid even with higher miles. I have a couple friends that have 6000+ miles on there M7's with very few issues. My M8 has about 3600 and it's still a solid sled.

Keep watching the swapmeet too, sleds will get real cheap in a couple weeks. I know I'm going to put mine up for about 4K and I know of another couple people will be getting rid of theirs so they don't have to store it through the summer.

Thanks Guys,

a Friend has an 04 800rmk with 1400 miles on it, but its got a 144, I was looking for a bit bigger but he's selling it for $3000, extras are Slp tri kehl skis, evan walker susp, camoplast hillclimb track.

Sounds like a pretty good deal, would it be better for me in the long run to spend the extra $$ and get an M7/M8? They are alot lighter sleds too right?

Whatcha got? :face-icon-small-coo

The REV and summit are the same thing. The REV is the chassis style (like saying a Toyota 4runner or Toyota Tacoma, both have the same chassis but have different model styles). SO the REV Summit, Summit X, Adrenaline, etc all have different options but come on the same chassis. ya dig?

Thanks for clearing up the confusion, It was easy when i used to ride, everything was just 500-600-700-800....

I would pick the m or rev over the rmk, since the rmk is not a rider forward design.

I would say on a whole the m's tend to be a bit more reliable but the rev will have more power.

The rev 800 had problems with the rings, about 2000 miles and they started causing issues. So if you go that way make sure it has new pistons or plan on changing them out yourself before they blow.

I would try to find somebody that will let you ride a rev and a m, they are quite a bit different to ride and it would be probably a good idea to figure out which suits you better. :face-icon-small-hap

For the timeframe/price you are looking for, I would probably stay away from the Polaris 800 because of Crank issues.

The 06 Ski-Doo Rev's are good, I think the 07 Ski-Doo Rev's have had worse luck than the 06's

You can probably get an M7 or M8 for $4k. Great sled for the price.

All are just my opinions and not based on any facts.

Miles doesn't mean anything, need to know how it was ridden.

Example: If my sled has 2000 miles, 80% of those miles will be at WFO. If my dad has 2000 miles, 20% of those miles will be at WFO.

Moral of the story, buy my dad's sled!! :face-icon-small-hap

What's he got? :D

Yeah that 04 RMK i was looking at with 1500 miles, well, thats all hill climb miles, apparently he won stock 800 in it at the JH WC hillclimb :face-icon-small-fro

Go with the m-series. My buddy has a m7 he wants 4000 for. Good shape not all busted up, he just wants to upgrade. The m sleds are a lot easier to tip and seem to cluimb well also.

In my group of riding buddies there is an 04 ski-doo rev and 2 05 ski-doo revs, all 3 are 800 one is a 144 inch track the other two are 151 inch tracks. All 3 run very good but did need new rings and pistons right around the 2000 mile mark. If you go the Ski-Doo route I would make sure that this has been done so you don't get hosed on a sled that you bought. Outside of that the ski-doo revs are a solid sled if keeped maintained.

go bark up another tree . . .

What's he got? :D

Then you'll have a sled setup to run with the best. Oh well, it will be the fastest and climb the highest at least. . . So you don't want such a sled? :face-icon-small-dis

yeah that rmk wouldnt bother me if the guy is good on his up keep..check and see if he has done a crank already and if so..might be a good sled..money saved you could change to a better track or some other accesories you might want/need....

I had 5500 miles on my M7 when I sold it (this past week). Only problem was my primary spider blew the 2nd year and that was under warrranty. Pull and go, gas and oil. Bought an M8 2010 figure the reliability should also be there. Hope so.

06 m7... hard sled to beat for just a stock out of the box performing sled in that price range. Im a rev guy but man, the M7's of those years flat out go and work good!! my dad and buddy have one.. only issues they have had are related to hitting things and just plain riding the piss out of the sleds for 3000 miles+ on each, stuff wears out.
