We did this at work 5 years ago.
Our secretary was warming her brand new car up in the drive way when some scum ran up, knocked her down and drove off in her new car.
They found it a couple days later, totally destroyed.
She didn't have much money and was planning on getting insurance with her next check. She figured she had 3 days that she was covered by the dealership.
Unfortunetly, the dealership warranty didn't cover theft. She was just out the car.
So we (about 80 of us) all pitched in and replaced the car, with 6 months full coverage insurance.
The fun part was, we went to the dealership and gave them the money. They gave her the car and all the paperwork. When she asked who did it, the dealership simply told her.
Santa Claus.
No BS. We did this 5 years ago.

I'm with ya man. The first time the daughter called my then fiance by the day care ladies name it was all over. Sure I'm taking hits in my toy fund but it's worth it.
I'd say for my present, I'd finally and legally give my last name to my daughter. To explain I'm not her real dad but I am the only one she's ever known and I hope wil ever know. Also I wish I could give my wife, daughter and myself the guarente that the azz F!@k who got her pregnant and never showed up to find out if he was the father, would never ever at any time try and make contact with either of them. I'm not exactly sure where I would end up if he did, but I know for damn sure where he would be at if he ever messed my life up.
