Ideas for carrying spare fuel tank

I want to carry some extra fuel on my rack... sled is an '01 rmk 700 144". I'm not sure how much I should carry but more is always better. Also not sure how to go about strapping it down to the rack. Can anyone suggest something that is simple and readily available at any given hardware store. Thanks

Mount some eye bolts through the side of tunnel, preferably through the bumper. Tie down with rubber bungee straps. I have carried a 5gal can on the back of a mountain Viper. Just remember it's not gonna ride as nice and no jumping. We usually dump the can off in a place we have to come back by.

If it's a "rack", I imagine that a 2.5 gal would fit in there o.k. I would suggest crossing two short ratchet straps to hold it in securely. I would not recommend Bungees. With ratchets you can launch it off small buildings and it will still be there..jmho

I use a 2.5 gal wedco can. I just went to the hardware and found the smallest rachet straps I could find. Cut the lenght down and hook through my rack. I found the rachet straps were the only way to get my can tight enough and not break the little plastic buckles that come on the nylon straps that some cans use.

I like really like the Mountain Addiction Gas Rack. I have it on two of my sleds. I'm pretty extreme rider and its the perfect combination. Just enough fuel and stays where you put it. No bungees needed. Taken the roughest trails at any speed. rolled the sled number of times, these things don't go anywhere. Best gas solution out there.

I don't have an extra $100 sitting around, so I use a 2 1/2 gal plastic can and use a ratchet strap. If you use bugie straps, your buddies get tired of following you around pick up your gas can. Besides a ratchet strap comes in pretty handy when you break a ski shock!

If you have a choice, place the can on your sled so the large cap is closest to the seat.

I use two solid rubber bungees on my 1m with the storage rack. Works great for me - no frozen straps or buckles. If the rubber shows any cracks when stretched, replace immediately.
