Heads UP !!!

The new snow (12"+) on our high country along with the strong
winds today, has probably created some avalanche hazard for hunters and back-country hikers.

Nov. 1, 2010--10 AM Update---Heads UP !!!

The new snow (9"+) on our high country, with nearly an inch of
water content, has probably increased avalanche hazard for hunters and back-country hikers, again. We have
over two feet now on our highest peaks on favored slopes.

Nov. 9, 2010---Heads Up--the 2010--2011 winter snow and avalanche season has begun!!
Our third significant snowfall yesterday, has put us firmly into winter's grasp.

Current Conditions for 11/9/10:
As of 7 AM we have received up to 6" of heavy, wet snow in the last 24
hours, and now have over 2 feet of pack above 9,000'--in favored locations.

The Black Bear SnoTel Site in Island Park is reporting 16" as of this morning!

Everybody that I ride with has the proper gear. Pretty much everywhere you ride has a some danger areas. Some more than others. Lionshead has some great open meadows and some nice tree riding back by targhee peak. Lionshead gets a bad rap I believe because alot of people go there to hillclimb. Yes, always have the proper gear. Not a good idea anywhere you go out west to not have the gear, avy courses and some common sense.

Nov. 23, 2010---Well--the snow you've been waiting for is here. With 22" to 53" the last 4 days, we now have approx. 2 to 3 feet in the valleys and 4 feet plus at 8,000 feet elevation.

Avlanche hazard is CONSIDERABLE to HIGH, so--avoid travel on or near steep slopes, gullies and avalanche run-out zones for the next few days till the snowpack settles down.

Area Weather:
As of 7 AM, 11/23/10 it is mostly cloudy, and 22 degrees at Henrys Lake, with light to moderate snow. We
have received 5" to 17" of new snow in the last 24 hrs., and 22--53" (2.5--4.5" water) in the last 4 days. There
is approx. 36" on the ground now at Macks Inn. On Lionhead, winds are ............., and winds are from the SSE
at 15--17 at Henrys Lake (ITD station at State Park turnoff from Hwy 20). A Blizzard Warning for snow and
strong winds remains in effect until 11 PM tonight. Additional snowfall today and tonight of 6 to 12"
is possible. This is a BIG storm, and has created severe storm and avalanche conditions
