Idaho Controlled Hunts

Drawing a cow tag in my old stomping grounds units 36, 36A and 36B was pretty easy up until this year. In fact, there were excess tags for most years that you could purchase over the counter. Bulls were always more difficult to draw, but you always had the option for an over-the-counter tag for 36B.

Thanks to the wolves, the elk drawing permits have been slashed in 1/2, but you can still get the over-the-counter bull tag. Since the feds killed the Buffalo Ridge pack for livestock depredations, it may give the calves a chance this year, but it is likely that another pack will just move in. We will see.

By the way, has anyone heard when the judge is due to make the decision concerning the wolf hunting season injunction? Molloy seems to be taking his sweet time.

Havent heard a final decision yet. Im hoping by October we will have a definite decision and be able to legally shoot wolves in Idaho. Im afraid its too late for some elk herds tho, like the Clearwater area hard to even find an elk there now. Last I heard the number of wolves to be harvested/killed will be around 380.

Will do thanks. There are still some good 350+ class bulls in the unit, but you are right like all of the good units, the numbers are declining. Going to be interesting to see how bad the winter kill was this year Im hearing its not going to be good and because I didnt draw I will be hunting in the general season with all the other crazy Utahns and Californians! Lol!

How old do you have to be before you start sayin "screw big game hunting, Im a bird hunter now!" I think Im about there already.[/QUOTE

No it goes "Screw big game hunting in Idaho, when i spend gas to go up there i'm hunting, sharp tails, chuckers, or bears". You know i'll still be archery elk hunting this year, but not 66A, we are thinking the beaverheads for this year. Anyone have info there?

You idaho boys need to start showing me some love. Over the last nine years while chucker, elk, bear and sharp tail hunting, i have had 2 notes on my windsheild threating to turn me into the fish cops with no reason stated, 1 tire slashed, 1 busted window, 5 piss marks on my door, and prob more thats all i can remember. We respect your guys animals and land, we don't drive fourwheelers around everywhere, we park and hike all day, and we still get shi from you idaho boys. haha the rest of the utards ruined it for me and my crew.
