Drawing a cow tag in my old stomping grounds units 36, 36A and 36B was pretty easy up until this year. In fact, there were excess tags for most years that you could purchase over the counter. Bulls were always more difficult to draw, but you always had the option for an over-the-counter tag for 36B.
Thanks to the wolves, the elk drawing permits have been slashed in 1/2, but you can still get the over-the-counter bull tag. Since the feds killed the Buffalo Ridge pack for livestock depredations, it may give the calves a chance this year, but it is likely that another pack will just move in. We will see.
By the way, has anyone heard when the judge is due to make the decision concerning the wolf hunting season injunction? Molloy seems to be taking his sweet time.
Havent heard a final decision yet. Im hoping by October we will have a definite decision and be able to legally shoot wolves in Idaho. Im afraid its too late for some elk herds tho, like the Clearwater area hard to even find an elk there now. Last I heard the number of wolves to be harvested/killed will be around 380.
