Who do you think is the biggest icon (past or present) of various sports. These may not be the best but the name that is thought of when a sport is talked about and compared to.

Snowmobiling : Chris Burandt

Snowboarding : Shawn White

Cycling : Lance Armstrong
Football : Joe Montana
Golf : Tiger Woods (he kinda hosed this one up)

I agree with most of TW's picks but added a few of my own as a few
sports have different genres with in them. Some of these I consider the "best ever" and some the "most influential" IMO....

Mountain Snowmobiling : Chris Burandt

Skier: Warren Miller / Glen Plake
Skate Boarding : Tony Hawk / Rodney Mullens
Drifting: ken block
Bmx: Matt Hoffman / dave mirra / Jamie Bestwick
motocross: Bob Hannah / Jeremy McGrath / Ricky carmicheal
freestyle motocross: Travis pastrana
Swimming : Michael Phelps
Diving : Greg Louganis
Cycling : Lance Armstrong
Track: Carl Lewis / Michael Johnson
Football : Joe Montana / Walter Payton / Barry Sanders / LT / Ronny Lot

Seriously though:

Indy Car: 4 way tie with Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, Al Unser, and Roger Penske.

Funny Car: John Force

Hockey: close 2nd is Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull.

Football: close 2nd is Joe Namath.

Snowmobiling: I vote for Olav Aaen....the father for carb/clutch tuning and of all things for after-market performance.

Dare Devil/Stunt Riding/Bike Jumping: my favorite hero of all time - Evel Knievel.


There are only 2 sports that I can think of that have no close 2nd and that would be Boxing and Cycling.
