I was bored yesterday......

while i was waiting for the bird to cook i wandered out into the garage to pet the sleds. after a while i spotted some perforated aluminum scrap and the jigsaw. well, one thing led another and this is what happened. if i get too much snow thru the shock tower vents i'll add some screening. idle hands. :rolleyes:

Looks nice. I've had the same idea and even have some of the SLP filter material. What do you use to glue it down to metal or plastic. Did the bird burn? Have a good one. EW

All aluminum rivets. $12 invested and 3 hours. i had help with the bird or it might have been toast. ;)

Like the footwell vents, definitely will let out the heat. I'd definitely put some prefilter on the bellypan intake vent, fine powder will find its way in there, and water if you happen to have to waterskip someday.

Use petscreen, available at HD or Lowes, SLP prefilter is too fine, doesn't let air through. Take your air gun and blow on one side, won't feel any air on the other. Regular screen will work too, either will keep snow off the clutches.

Thanks for the input gents!:beer;

That looks like nice work, those don't look a lot diffrent than the ones that cost 90 bucks. Nice job.

Nice job on the vents.
I second Ron on the pet proof screen for the shock tower vents.
The knee vents look as good as the ones I just bought from Carl's Cycle,but cost you a lot less:o:beer;.

You know you just made me think about it, I have a roll of replacement window screen in my pickup truck that isn't going to get used. It is the plastic style, so no corrosion concerns. Hmmm when my sled comes back from the dealer I think I figure out what I am going to use to make some shock tower vents.

hey that looks good been wanting somethin like that

What do you guys think about doing the same on the side panel? Using a 3 or 4 inch hole saw and put like 3 holes in the side. Then put the perforated aluminum behind it?

I used some anodized scrap, with SLP material, held on by a super thin spray coat of Red "High Tack" Gasket Sealant, sprayed on the metal, and then gently layed down and smoothed out the SLP materiel. And strips of Gorilla Tape on the inside for insurance.

First sled I used rivets, second I used SS button head hex Bolts to nylocks. 1400 Boondocking miles, no tears or failures.

To those who did their footwell vents, did you cut out the stock slits flush, or did you leave the lip that rolls to the inside? I want to leave the rolled lip for strength, but have not worked out how to attach the vent after wards.

DIY!
