I think my Apex seized....how much?

Cruising leisurely down the trail I let off the gas to stop. Immediately upon stopping the motor quickly grinded to a stall. I tried to start it and it grinds. The drive clutch will turn but not freely. So out came the tow rope and a wasted day.:mad:

Any thoughts? The sled has an MPI Stage 1 and has run flawlessly all year. What kind of $$$$ am I looking at for parts if necessary? i.e. pistons, cylinders, etc it this is the problem.

I dropped it off at the local Yamaha dealer, but not knowing is driving me nuts. Since I am new to Yamaha I have no idea what these motor parts run

My dealer did one a while ago and I believe the bill was well north of $4000.00. Thats bad news bud. Sorry to hear. Good luck. PS. Might be cheaper to find one out of a wrecked Apex.

if case and crank are ok 2500-4000

sound like you may have spun a bearing like i did be thank full it happened when you were idling.if there were no great amounts of oil under the sled the case should be fine.how much boost were you running & what type of gas.one other thing to check is you starter when they go your motor will seize up to.

....but your motor will not be seized (your starter and drive will be toast). Was your sled running well and was the gauge working properly? ....and how's the blower drive?
Here's hoping karma's on your side today.

10lbs. 100 Sunoco Unleaded I don't think its the starter. After it died I tried to start it briefly. Didn't sound right so we towed it.

Good news.....bad news. Found out today that it is my blower that took a crap. This is my second one. So much for low failure rate. The bad thing is I'm being told it needs to be sent to Denmark for inspection before it can be considered for waranty. This will take at least a month, that's how long my last one took. What a pain and certainly because of its age there in certainly no guarantee.

wow good & bad i think mpi needs to fix that for you this is something they should help you out with.i would be yelling at somebody on the phone for a new one.we dont get to ride enough as it is.hope thing work out for you.:beer;

I dont understand why Mpi would not take care of this or sell you one and then credit you when or if it is considered for warranty?????

MPI is junk. How are they still in business? I all hear and read are problems with them and their stuff.

The bad news gets a little better. The guy (not Mac) at MPI told my dealer today that they would get me a new blower while mine got sent around the world for warranty inspection. This is good news.

I think the problem lies somewhere else in the system however. The blower oil is white. White as 2%. Which certainly caused the blower to fail. The problem is, is that there is no visual reason for the water. It is getting sucked in from somewhere, but where? This is not a sled that is neglected. Blower oil is checked regularly, sled is always dried after use. There lies a problem elsewhere in the system. The mechanic is stumped, I am pissed, and I'll have to ride the wifes blown Phazer until this gets figured out.

Check your vent line on the oil tank. If it to close to the bottom of your belly pan it can suck up water and snow back into the oil tank. It is another design flaw (list is getting bigger)that MPI has with there set up on the Nytro.

That makes sense. Lately we have been riding in nothing but powder. Which would equate to water in the belly pan. What doesn't make sense is why the "vent" would suck. If this is something that has happened to others please let me know. I am going to need all the info I can get if this is a known problem that has been happening. If thats the case it should be MPI doing the warranty not Rotrex. Why send something to Denmark if the problem lies in faulty R&D on the part of MPI.

The same thing happend to a guy in South Dakota his sucked water in the breather vent also.
