I installed my Better Boards

here is the thing, as long as there is at least the drilled hole size diameter between the hole edge and cut edge they shouldn't tear out. The rivets also are not in shear but lets say you tried towing a sled out sideways by the running boards for weird some reason, they could possibly tear out.

I wasn't too worried about the rivets tearing out, but the backing washers were just a little insurance.

The Lords adhesive makes the install very stiff.

adhesive?

I'm a little confused. I thought all these replacement boards just used rivets to install the new board where the old ones were cut out. What's with the adhesive? Is this the recommended installation by the board mfgrs? If so, does the adhesive come with the boards? The only mfgr mentioned in this thread is BB, so maybe the replies should be kept to that mfgr. Thanks.

Better boards do not reccomend that you have to use adhesives,
But the Air frames and the other round tube rails all reccomend it!
and i think there have been several post on all the new adhesives,
even the pro is glued together.
so why not add alittle extra insurance to hold them on is why.

The glue and rivet backing washers are optional (my choice, not recommened by the manf). The BB instructions just have you use the inclosed rivets. I'm told that has worked just fine. The topic of the Lords 406/19 has been discussed at length in other threads. A little search will tell you the background.

I don't recommend it because I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY TESTED IT. That is in bold caps because it's really that critical in my business model. Unlike a good portion of the snowmobile aftermarket product industry I or now WE only put out a product that has been adequately tested in the field by experts. (not consumers)

What would happen if we suggested it untried and it failed, or caused some unforeseen problem down the road? There are now somewhere in the neighborhood of 13,000 sets of Snowmobile Better Boards on the snow. I would venture a guess that there aren't 100 sets of any other one brand on any ONE application let alone "glued" as part of the structural aspect of the install.

Do I think it is a good idea to install with adhesives? It sounds like a great idea if it all works but once again my personal experience is only with the several million tested miles of my 32 designs when installed and used as I specify. I'm just like some of you and waiting to see and hear the test results.

I never glued a set on my apex and they worked flawless with the rivets. Have a set on order for the pro and will most likely install per directions.

I am really perplexed as to the fear that some are having about only riveting their BBoards. When the appropriate amount of material is removed when fitting the BB's there is more than enough material to rivet to. Have ran riveted boards for two years on my '09 Dragon, go 240-250 geared up with ZERO rivet issues. They were so secure that I even bent/bowed then. Replaced with HD BB's. Rob, your Boards and Bars are a great product, backed by great service. I reccomend then to all my riding buddies and would not buy another brand. Keep up the great work F-Bomb!!!:face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-coo

I don't know how the PRO boards compare to what you have replaced in the past, but on a PRO there is VERY little metal left, unless you let some be seen from inside the window. I wanted a clean looking install and the instructions even say remove it back so the remaining board is not visible. I have said many times, the glue may not be needed... I will say it again... the glue may not be needed. I will also stand by what I said earlier, I would not install them on a PRO without the Lords adhesive.

Keep in mind. I didn't start this discussion. There were other guys on this forum who used the Lords glue, on BB's and Airframes, including Mountain Horse. I did my home work and felt it was the way to go. So don't think this was just some crazy idea I had!
Nuff said. I'm starting to think it would have been a good idea to keep my thoughts to myself on this site.

Keep your input/thoughts coming. True, my install was not on a Pro and I have been there on installing aftermarket parts that sometimes you feel need some kind of an adjustment on the install. Keep going with the improvements to your Pro. Snow is not far off!!!

At 300lbs I'm going to take mine off and use the adhesive. If nothing else for my own peace of mind. The small amount of material left just makes me nervous enough to be safe.

Guys, I'm not a small man, I have run BB's for the last 6 years on three differant sled platforms.

No, I don't ride as good as you do.

No, I don't huck drops as big as you do.

No, I don't jump from side to side like what's his name does.

No, I have never drug a sled out sideways by the running board. ?!?!?!?!?!

I have NEVER had an issue with a BB product. Ever.

I have looked all over our two '11 Pro's and can not find a bend or crack anywhere near the running boards.

Sigh, Bag

Has someone on this thread said there was a problem with their Better Boards?? WOW

I'm not trying to get anyone upset either.

I also plan to use the adheisive on my install, simply because it seems like a good idea and a realtivly easy/cheap method of adding strength, not because I believe the sky is falling.

I like having nice equipment and I'm pretty anal about maintenance and care, sometimes I think it's easy for us to get caught up in things and make mountains out of molehills.

That was the point I was trying to make, not pee'in down anyones back.
