My question is how can Ski Doo owners still buy new Doo's after the XP nightmare? I look at all the new sleds attempting to pick one that will be my new sled for next year the dragons look good the cats look good the yamaha's look like snob machine and then the Ski Doo futuristic clean lines inovative design a great machine and when you talk to the owners they love them and don't seem to care about their down falls. With all the threads on here about the bad belts, motors, and drive shafts, I don't get it.
If Yugo brought out a new improved model I sure wouldn't buy it no matter how good the warranty is.
I'm working on a 96 ski doo 670 when I get it running will I go to the dark side as well?

I've come to the conclusion that it's the same guys over and over complaining about the same things. People always complain more than they praise something. I used to think the same way but once you think about it, do you really think people would buy these sleds year after year if they were all having these problems?

if you keep track of most of those threads, you will find that a good number of them are started by a friend of a friend whos brother in laws cousin owns a ski-doo, and they rode it for 2 minutes and now can form an opinion.

Not discounting that there are and were some legit problems, but I think the numbers are a bit skewed..... you don't see many threads started by the people who have no problems....

Drive shafts.... I will have to admit, there is no excuse for that, but they are taking care of the problem... a little slow, but it is being taken care of...

Clutching issues also need to be dealt with, but what brand doesn't need the clutching dialed in for your type of riding and conditions.

You can buy any brand you listed, but I think you'll find, they all have there issues.

That makes alot of sense! I never thought of it that way.

I was one of the so called "Guinea pigs" that spring ordered an '08 XP and I fail to see how the XP is such a nightmare.

I upgraded from an '02 summit that I thought was the cats azz when i got it back in 01. Compared to my '02, the XP is the best thing since sliced bread.

My handwarmers quit working and my trip meter did funny things (both fixed for free), how is that a "nightmare"? It ate two belts, which got replaced for free, big deal. I didn't have the driveshaft problem (but it was recently replaced for free).

So compared to what I was riding and other sleds I have tried out on the hill, I love my XP and would buy another one and would recommend them to others.

I'm sure others will have differing opinions, but if they don't actually own an XP I wouldn't take what they have to say as the gospel, because their opinion is usually based on what a friend of a friend has heard from their 2nd cousin twice removed. I'm not trying to stir the pot so sorry if I offend anyone, just my .02.

I felt the same way last year. However, I went out and rode the new sleds and guess what, I'm on an XP. It was at the bottom of my list prior to my seat time but I really, really liked it when I rode it. Plus, I have excellent dealer support and we talked A LOT about the 08 "problems" before I put down my cash. He has a clutch setup that works and no one I know had driveshaft problems.

I was die hard polaris until that 05 IQ RMK 900 166 came out. I had (have) a 05 iq mod that out climbed it, literaly it was absolutly disgusting so tried carls 975, still a pile...fast pile...but could not climb a pile of chit. switched to 06 M7 following year and what a lemon. Bogging, lack of grip heaters and horse power would have been a blessing if the list stopped there. that thing could have had is a$$ handed to it by a descent running 600. Dealer tried very hard but you can't polish a turd. 06 switched to ski doo and about soiled myself. 07 ski doo no probs. 09 xp hc in garage. many friends on xp's and have had no problems. so i guess its just who you talk to and what brand gave them grief.

thank you great comments. you see with the antique I started on 86 poo triple 600 anything is a upgrade and I'm not rich enough to buy one of each as much as I would like to. I want to buy the best sled I can afford with no regrets and no whining

little side note......Mythbusters proved you could polish a turd on an episode last week......

they chose what kind of crap they would use and then proceeded to polish there little turd balls....... pretty gross but actually quite polished:eek::eek:

It all depends on the rider and what they prefer. They all have minor problems, but all handle and behave different under different conditions. Like some have said, most of the threads on here are started by guys with problems and are looking for solutions. I own an xp and its for a reason. I like the ride better than any other machine out there. Tried 4 different mountain machine rentals last year (all stock), and still found the xp more enjoyable to ride. Thats why i chose to buy one this year.
I think u see a lot of guys bashin em cause when ur at the top, ur the one everyones tryin to bring down. And a lot of people just like to ***** also. Lol

I personally love my XP. Yes, BRP had a few issues last year, but they have & are fixing them. Most of the problems are pretty minor(handwarmers, guages) except the driveshaft. Even though the majority of us didn't have a problem with the driveshaft, they are replacing ALL of them.. just in case. I think that is very commendable. On top of guys talking smack about their brothers cousins step sons friend of a friend, I also believe that most of those who complained also had severe dealer problems. Most of us on this site are more informed than most dealers. My dealer is great but I usually know about a problem/recall before he does.

Most of the NEW sleds are pretty amazing & you can't go wrong with any of them. The XP is an amazing sled. Try to find someone to let you take one for a day or better yet a weekend. That's what sold me... Drive Time. I came off of a 99 summit x 670 with a 136. Now ride the XP 154 Everest. LOVE IT!!

I got stuck with my xp, such a good deal i couldnt NOT buy it. yah people saying crap about these sleds is scaring me, but i believe short stop is right. i guess i'll see this year, im sure itll be alot of fun to ride.

but i still miss my polaris

Well Graveler said they all suck, so I think I'm gonna sell mine. :D I'm like 75% of the people on here who didn't have any major problems all year. In fact, out of the 3 in our group, the only real problem we had was hand warmers going out on all of them.

If you don't like the XP's, just don't buy one. It's pretty simple!

To many people are whining about problems thier freinds had, and never even had An XP of thier own. the only problem I had with my XP all year was speedo sensor burnt out. oh no, I cant ride without that, ya right. i think every brand has its problems wether big or small. Internet hype blows everything out of proportion. I am the only one in my entire riding group that has a skidoo and on top of that the Fabled problem child XP. I have no problem with that at all. As I will beat all of them from 0-100 with the skis off the ground the whole way. But, I also have no problem with any of the sleds they ride. Everyone has a personal preference, who cares what your riding, as long as your riding. Its just like when I rode motorcycle. I may joke around and give chit to anyone not riding a Harley Davidson, as thats all I'll ever own, but I will ride with anyone on any kind of bike because at least they are riding. Look at my "more pictures" and scroll down to my bike pics and you will see that i love my Harley, but really a bike is a bike and a sled is a sled. dont let the internet hype into your head, as it gets blown so out of proportion, as someone else said " you just dont have people posting because they love thier sled, only those that have had problems." I will ride with someone wether they own a Skidoo,Polaris,Arctic Cat,Yamaha, kawasaki,Rupp,Scorpion, or whatever. Its a fricken sled, enjoy it whatever it may be. enouph ranting................... I even got a buddy with the new assault and I cant wait to see how he does, instead of hoping its chit, I hop it rocks, and I am a die hard skidoo guy.

Forums are a source for people to work out problems or vent. No one posts on a forum to ask for help to fix their sled that is working perfectly. People who post here are the tinkerers. The people who take a sled home and immediately strip it down to see how it works. These are the people that grow the sport and really get the information out there. Oftentimes you learn about potential issues on forums before many dealerships do (good delaerships read the forums though).

Last year I had an 08. If I hadn't read SNowest and Dootalk, I wouldn't have known that the clutch overheats and blows belts, or that the handwarmers break on some, or that the driveshaft was weak. My XP worked great (until it caught on fire because the y-pipe failed - but BRP stood up and fixed that - picked up my new 09 146 X last weekend).

I guess my point is that people post here who want to be heard, and people tend to be more vocal about negatives than positives. It's just life.

Go talk to people who buy new sleds, I bet half or less spend time on these forums. Instead they put in the key, pull the cord and ride.

By the way I think the forums are a GREAT resource to learn about all potential problems and how they can be avoided (rather than having to mess with warranty).

I don't want to pick a fight.

For years we have been reading about Ski-Doo and all their issues. My 07 had clutch issues. ( corrected ) my 08 XP is currently having some warranty issues resolved. drive shaft, clutch, etc. All repaired under warrany. I agree that Ski-Doo has issues but my experience working with the dealer and Ski-Doo has been excellent. ( past-- two AC, two Yamaha, five Ski-Doo) I ride with a group that runs competive sleds, AC, POO, Yamaha. One purchased four new AC in 06, reverse nightmare, sold now owns four Summits, two ride POO 900's, enough said, one rides Yam nitro, spent most of 08 season working on front suspension. Great sled but had major darting problem. Dealer wouldn't fix problem so did it himself. Machined front ball joints, installed heavier front springs. Surprise, machine handles great. Point, in most cases the dealer is the difference, good dealer, no negative BS. Poor dealer, keeps up the negative on the forum, it makes for interesting reading.

Can anyone name a sled that any mfr made, when introducing a entirely new chassis that DIDN'T have some problems? Part of the game.
I rode with a XP all last season, it proved durable, able to take a hit better than ANY sled without structural damage, best deep snow sled by quite a margin, fix the clutching and no belt issues.

For ALL new comers to skidoo...The same complaints and issue with skidoo sleds for the most remain the same as they have for 15 years. Get Used To It !!!!!! Even with the issues and all sled have them the skidoo mountain sleds are tought to beat overall.

OT
