I am tired of the "Anti-Coal" movement.

this isn't a superman movie.. lol
What did you mean by the "BS" comment about the Mercury then?
Yes I did. As a conservative, did you vote for McCain???

The BS part was said because, Are you a scientist, Do you have proof of this? Did you get this from hear say? What earthfirster told you this? Facts, no spinning. Facts.

I guess I would ask the same of you to doubt it? Do you have proof of it not being there?

This game sounds like fun... for a little while.

Sorry, yes I did vote for McCain,Palin. Certainly did not vote for a Illinois Senator.
LMAO!! conservative.. ha ha ha

well said, there's always something that has to be stopped or removed according to these guys.....

A big thing around here a few years back was the greenies wanting to take out the hydroelectric dams on the Columbia river.... interfering with fish migrations and such... You want clean power, and water is one of the cleanest ways to get it, but you would rather destroy it to save the fish run count that was down by 5% compared to 20 years ago.....

We need to focus MORE on using our natural resources as opposed to buying foreign, that's why we are so screwed now:face-icon-small-fro

ahh but what will happen when those resevoirs behind the dams slit up and the damn dam busts? And it will happen and I bet we will be alive to see it...well those of us not down river. Just some foder....

Maybe not.. I think the reliability that we have come to expect is too much. I think we can live with the power going out a little more often, especially if it means cheaper costs.

We won't have a choice. It won't matter where the power comes from if we don't curb consumption and update the grid....got blackouts?

Demmy, in todays paper, The Billings Gazette. Senator max Baucas wants to extend George Bush's tax cuts. Fantastic. Baucas is a spinner and so are you. phonny both of you. Wolf lovers. See you don't have proof, so you follow the rest of your demmy friends, Sheep. You love wolves and you act like sheep. Go eat yourself.

BWA HA HA HA! The retorts here are amusing.

Anyways, coal creates electricity for most of Colorado, all of Wyoming (wind just supplements it) and a pretty big portion of Utah, that I know of.

Yeah, coal fired plants do produce some pollution but they are within their limits set by the EPA. It's safe to say that cars in a city produce more pollution per day than what a coal fired power plant emits in the same day. Truth be told, most of the "smoke" that you see pouring from the stacks at a plant is in fact, steam.

I love wolves too, I'd like to have one mounted and standing in the corner of my game room.

Anything that comes out of the earth is not to be used, what are we thinking. Using Natural resorces is what has made the dollars for the people that call this country home, for decades. California has one of the biggest gold reserves in the country but the Greenies won't let them go after it. At least they are able to get a little coal out of the ground. Coal, Gold, Oil, Gas, Timber, all produce a dollar and will save us from barrowing from others, which is not being practcied at the moment. But if we use these things the goverment will not beable to take care of us.

where did you go 94ford?

I say we shut down all coal generation! That might teach the ****tards a lesson when when 95% of the lights go out and the refrigerator stops. I hope everyone Likes jerky A LOT!

Where do these people come from?

SOLAR AND NUKE ! Everthing else is a waste of time and $$$

I see ol burndown1 is still running around making friends the easy way....cheer up geez.

5. the burning of it causes mercury to go into the air, and then fall back down into lakes making the fish not edible.

I work at a powerplant that has been operating since the 70s,we have a lake that is used as our cooling water right next to the plant. It is one of the best bass fishing lakes in the state and gets tested all the time for pollutents such as mercury in the fish and guess what? Nothing! 100% safe eatable fish. Most do not like eating them just because the water is so warm in the summer from the plant that the meat is not as good tasting as cold water fish.

Powerplants with modern emissions are only putting .50 LB/MBtu of SO2 which is low,now we are even starting to inject urea to lower the NOX way down as well. People see the white smoke coming out of the stack and say "look at all the pollution coming out!" well guess what its just steam!! A plant with no scrubber on it appears to have nothing coming out of the stack unless it is a really cold day, most would assume they are running cleaner by looking at it but its not. Uneducated people running their mouth about it is part of the reason coal gets a bad name for itself. Work with it for awhile and you will realize its importance and benifits. This country is where it is today because of cheap energy costs, eliminating that will only hurt us more.

Sled, The emissions from the plant do not pollute the immediate area around you. That stuff goes up in the air and travels before it comes back down to the ground. Also, I would think you example of North Dakota (limited generation) and built in the 70's (pretty new) is not indicative of what happened and what occurred on the Eastern part of the US.

Correct, the stacks are cooling towers, and you are correct, emissions have been reduced by large amounts, due to the EPA. Coal gets a bad name because the industry is always fighting emissions requirements. I don't have a problem with coal it provides 50% of the US electricity, but to everyone that thinks it is perfect is delusional.
