I am tired of the "Anti-Coal" movement.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is wise to utilize all of the resources available, such as solar, wind, cow farts......I'm all for it.

But to actively campaign AGAINST coal is absolutely STUPID!!!
If God did not want us burning coal, why would he have put it right at our disposal?
We have coal like the middle east has oil.
Organizations like Greenpeace for example are at the root of this anti-coal movement.

Sorry, a commercial on TV pushed me over the edge & I just had to vent!

well said, there's always something that has to be stopped or removed according to these guys.....

A big thing around here a few years back was the greenies wanting to take out the hydroelectric dams on the Columbia river.... interfering with fish migrations and such... You want clean power, and water is one of the cleanest ways to get it, but you would rather destroy it to save the fish run count that was down by 5% compared to 20 years ago.....

We need to focus MORE on using our natural resources as opposed to buying foreign, that's why we are so screwed now:face-icon-small-fro

with Cap and Tax apparantly dead at this time the coal industry may have a bit of breathing room.

It also looks like the Ethanol subsidies are going to get a good look. i would like to see all the money wasted on ethanol subsidies go to coal technology.

Any mining for that matter, Bill. Without it, nobody would have the life they have today. EVERYTHING we use in daily life is mined in one way or another, and that includes those douchbag enviro-nuts. If they wanna whine and actually follow what they preach, then they can run around naked, dirty, eat roots, not make interweb vids, flyers, live in grass piles and sleep in their own feces, just like regular animals that don't utilize resoureces of the modern day. You have a right to vent.

1 readily available
2 very abundant
3 relatively inexpensive
4 extremely effective

want me to continue?

5. the burning of it causes mercury to go into the air, and then fall back down into lakes making the fish not edible.

That is so extremely exagerated that you can't even say it with a straight face.
im suprised he didnt type it in italics.

I think the point is, it might not be the most ideal source, but its a LOT better to run off our own **** then other peoples.. If we have it, lets use it, Ths US has tons of ways to generate more then enough power on our own, but we insist on importing so much of it. I would love to see more renewable crap, but until its delt with, turn up to the coal!

Yah, that is true.... but it sounds good.lol

Actually, looking at this problem closer, the issue is that the mercury doesn't really dissipate. It just sits and collects and creates a higher concentration over time.

BS. Let me guess ruffy, ah ..... you voted for Obama, play soccer, and want the protection for wolves.

The clean coal technology keeps getting better. Hear in Northdakota we have like ten coal plants within a 100 mile radius of my house. Im a boilermaker, we have been building scrubbers and other pollution control or what ever you want to call it. The scrubber take out quit a bit of the co2 and other pollutents. We have also built some coal dryers that dry the coal which makes it burn hotter ie get more btus out of it so they use less of it to get the same amount of power. If it wasn't for coal we proably wouldn't be able to power the whole country. The other way would be to go would be nuclear power and that will open a whole new can of worms.
These people whining about coal are probably the first ones whining when there power goes out too.

Correct, we get around 50% of our energy from coal. That is an awful lot!!

Maybe not.. I think the reliability that we have come to expect is too much. I think we can live with the power going out a little more often, especially if it means cheaper costs.

Aren't you confused about energy sources here? I don't think we import much for electricity generation. Gasoline and oil, well yes we do import a lot, but I am not sure what your point has to do with coal.

What do you mean "dealt with" with renewables? The US can handle 15% penetration without effecting operation / costs much if anything at all. Many places already have a lot more then that and are doing just fine.
