He ain't big but I couldn't pass up a 11 yard shot.

Ain't small neither. Good job, lazy rifle hunters cannot even get within 200 yards. Same goes for Muzzy hunters too.

Sorry but Archery is the ONLY way to go.:beer;:beer;

Heading out Saturday afternoon to finish out the season. Hoping for anything, even a yearling. TASTY!

LMAO. Tactful as always.:rolleyes: Archery hunting is for Felons! :p J/K, a very admirable pursuit, but with todays bows it's not like your tonto or something. Doesn't hurt to be the first one in the woods either;)

Nice bull and bucks.
I could not make the trip to Colorado this year for the archery hunt but like others say hunting with a bow is a rush, close and sometimes a little scarry.

Yeah, I get that but I'm gonna be the last one in the woods this year. And my bow is right around 10 years old. Just ask XC. And I am Tonto, I hunt in nothing but a loin cloth and charcoal paste. Wanna see a picture?:eek:

As for rifle hunting, I apologize for my brashness but I cannot respect somebody who sites their rifle in for 400 yards and bags a big bull. If I hunted with a rifle I'd have 20+ big bulls sitting in the garage. There is a challenge to archery, that is why it is fun. But it is becoming overcrowded. I think I am going to petition a spear hunting season.

No scars unless you get charged. Never been scared by a Bull, but I did stumble upon a sow and her 2 cubs and I had a cat following me. That'll raise the hair on yer neck.

Im in for some deer/elk spear hunting!!:D

I hunted bow for 10 years, so I know what your saying. Simply, it became too much farging work. Used to be able to scrabble up mt everast and get into some good bulls. Now I'm just too out of shape to do it well and get to the animals that aren't spooked out of their minds. Back when there were half the bow hunters in the woods it was a lot better than now. CWD hasn't helped either. I've had a few bulls come charging in when i was armed with pointy stick. Had a herd bull whirl around on me when I was spooking a small herd down a ridge. Finally got about 30 yards away behind some doghair when he whirls aroudn and thunders straight back at me and stops 10 yards away, glaring and slobbering at me through that doghair. I had a buck tag, of course, but fun to stalk anyway. Another time, my buddy was talking to a bull from 50 yards out at the top of this nasty thick dark timbered ravine. Hearing the bull from 200 yards away and not knowing my bud was there softly mewing, I come sneaking in on the bull who's thrashing the woods. Got about 35 yards from him and then my buddy mews again from behind me. Bull comes tearing azz straight at him at a full run, crashing through the doghair and sending rocks and debris flying. Well, I'm right in the middle of that trajectory standing in an open spot, arrow knocked. Bull clears the thick and comes screaming at me, when all of a sudden he becomes aware and locks up all four wheels, skidding to a halt 20 feet away. Huffing and glaring at me with bloodshot eyes, sweat and snot all over his face. I'm as still as a mouse but the shakes are coming on and I think I might pass out, he turns his head back and moves off a few steps, looks back at me from 25'. My heart is jumping out of my chest and I'm sure he hears it pounding! I should have pulled up and taken my chance at the close range, but I wait. He jumps back to about 30 yards and looking away. I pull up, shaking like Muhammad Ali, trying to steady for a shot. He starts to move off and I fling a pointy stick into the boulders behind him. Foiled again!

Story of my bow hunting career, but I sure loved putting the sneak on elk! A bigger rush I'll never get. I still do, but that blaze orange is a killer. I don't care what anybody says, that chit shines like a beacon. They may only see B&W, but it still reflects a ton of light. Why do you think bow-hunters don't have to wear it? Not because of safety, it's because they wouldn't get close to a thing if they were covered in that vial color. The prigs that made that mandatory are laughing their azz' off at us poor dumb bassturds. It is hilarious if you think about it. I used to sneak within spitting distance of Bulls often, but stalk hunting is not like sitting in a tree reading field and stream waiting for something to wander by. J/K, if you got the patience to sit in a tree MPTO, I just can't do it for more than an hour or two, and then my stand is always "not in quite the right place"! lol Did stick a nice 5X in the Scapula from a stand though. Of course, the scapula isn't a vital organ! 2" off! Never did kill anything with the bow, but didn't mortally maim anything either. After sticking that bull in the shoulder blade and tracking him in falling snow for a few miles before losing him, a switch went off for me and bowhunting. I doubt it killed him, but I bet it hurt like heck the rest of his days. Never was much of a shot, and worse when buck fever hit, nor did I practice enough either. I respect the animal too much to inflict my bad shooting on them anymore, so I quit! Figured I'd come back and get them "easy" bulls with my rifle. Haha, doesn't work either. Still, I am better off with a 270 at 100 yards or so. Now I just sneak in as best as the orange will allow, pull up and dump em nice and quick....about once every 5 years! I mostly hunt timber and small meadows, so elk at 400 yards are in the next county for me. Bow hunting is a great experience, but it's too hard to really good at it for me. When i was a snobby bow-hunter I thought, if I only had a rifle....Well ya don't and when that season comes around those elk will be a whole lot harder to sneak up on! In fact, for me anyway, no matter what i'm hunting with the game seem to be attuned to staying just out of my range or tripping me up at the last second! There must be a God! nobody's that bad!

For me, hunting is playing by the rules set forth, thus giving the game a big edge, then trying to beat those odds using my brain and weapon. Usually come home empty handed, but when I do score it's very rewarding because I know I beat a game with heavily stacked odds. If I just wanted to fill the freezer and hang more bone on the wall, i'd change my tactics and just start shooting out the kitchen window :)

i hear that they are actually thinking about putting in a sticks and stone season, no joke. That would be interesting........****ing hippies lol
