Huge oil mess after sitting over the summer

one of the check valves in the crank case from the oil injection system is leaking oil these are a slow leak and take months to show them selves , i had one on my 13 that gave me fits until i found it . but it's more of a nuisance than a problem .
 
Maybe Crack open your oil cap for the summer after you are done riding. keep it from building up pressure from in the tank, Heat builds up and can push oil thru if it gets hot enough where it is kept thru summer.. or else bad check valve as mentioned above..
 
Plug the oil line off the tank if you don't fix the checkball. Had an 800 hydrolock years ago during off season. Flipped it upside down to drain the oil out of the plug holes.
 
Over the summer the check valves leak. I had the Ski doo oil cap on so it never was able to create a vacuum, and it filled the engine with oil.

So.....I've heard talk of the ski-doo oil cap before as well.....good or no good ???
 
From what I've read and understand good and bad.

Good in that it will flow and you're not relying on the marble to bump into the internal cap valve from Polaris.

Bad in that as noted above it's not bi-directional venting so as oil expands/contracts oil is forced into the engine because it can't vent, essentially pumping oil into the engine.

Feel free to correct me if I've misspoken...
 
I believe that the main problem is the check valves are not working correctly. Then the ski Doo oil cap makes it worse, because it never creates a vacuum by design.
 
i had the doo oil cap on both my sleds ,one never had an issue the other one that locked up wasn't a problem after i fixed the oiler nozzle . cheap fix but a little bit of a pain to get to
 
Interesting notes on the Doo cap. I've had one on mine for a couple years now and have never had a problem. Will have to keep a closer eye on it.

I guess if you have your Polaris cap you could put it on over the summer. Cracking the Doo cap will also allow free flow, and I’m not sure if enough pressure is made by seasonal temp rise to cause an issue. The MAIN problem is poor check valves.
 
My Pro came with the Doo cap, and as I understand it, most of the issues were with the Pro sleds because of the angle the cap sat at. Regardless, if you have that cap, you should be able to avoid any issues with heat building enough pressure push oil through by filling the oil reservoir before storage. The oil will also expand as it heats, but not nearly as much as air, and the tank should have enough flex to handle that.

The check valves in the oilers open around 5 PSI, and I'm not sure even a mostly empty tank with a blocked cap on a hot day would build that much pressure. It could be the cause, but a stuck or weak check valve is more likely. Cracking the cap will eliminate that as a cause, but I'd still fill the tank: if the oil tank is low, you could invite condensation in a humid climate. If it's a check valve stuck open, you'll still get oil gravity feeding, so that's another place filling the tank will help: if you come back and find it's not full, you know you have a problem.
