Hps can on 2010 Assault??

I bought one but am now questioning if I should run it? I read about some concerns of running a free flowing can on a cfi engine. Any thought, thanks.

I ran one for over 800 miles on my 09 last year with zero issues. Put it on and enjoy it. Scott (HPS) does a lot of testing on these sleds with his cans to make sure he is selling the best product he can.

HPS makes a QUALITY product.

I would call Scott and make sure that the back-pressure is the same as the stocker.... the 2010 is VERY sensitive to back-pressure... especially at sub 3000 ft elevations. Enough to where they are requiring a different can on the 2009's with the new update on them for pistons/head/flash. The 2010 engine/flash/head/pistons are the same as the 2009 with the update. The muffler is different on these models (Same as the 2007 dragon Part # 1261732-489 ).

Even though the HPS has a muffler for the 2007 700, will it be close enough in flow to the 2010 muffler not to raise havoc with an already sensitive map/engine combo?

AND Polaris is going to be much tighter on warranty claims this year if something goes wrong.

With all the problems that the 800CFi has been having... and the effects that the can will have on warranty.... and the reputation for high quality that HPS has, I'd like to see something in writing from HPS or posted on their website (up soon I hope) that states this HPS can will NOT affect warranty nor affect the target back-pressure that this motor seems to need to be dependable.

I'll Give Scott a call and see if he wants to chime in here.

JUST to be clear... HPS makes high quality parts, and has great customer service....I'm not bashing their product...

AND this new engine package has not hit the snow in the consumers hands for long... even the 2010 protos from last season were different. Problems would most likely not rear their head for hundreds of miles if they were to come up.

It is prudent to be cautious right now. Large corporations like Polaris, especially since this update has been so costly for them, will be watching their warranties like a hawk this year.

I do know Scott got a 2010 early in their release this year and had it at his shop for a couple weeks doing some slight tweeking on the fit as well as addressing the issues that are being raised with the back pressures. I can't say exactly what the flow numbers of his can are compared to the stock one, but I can say he would not put a product out on the snow that he had any question in his mind was going to have problems. Scott takes extreme pride in his business and makes every single can that comes out of his shop personally. I can talk to him on Mon. about this again and see if there is anything he wants posted. He is currently working well before the sun comes up and staying well after it goes down so getting him on here might be a little difficult.

I just talked to Scott at HPS after reading this thread. I bought a 2010 dragon 800 rmk. He said my hps can off of my 09 assault is NOT the correct one. I do still have my hps can off my 07 dragon 700. He informed me that is the CORRECT can for the 2010's. If you have any more questions for him, his # is 208-357-3343. Thanks Scott!

So the HPS can on my 08 isn't right? What happens if we keep running these? My dealer hasn't said anything about it.

That is an excellent point for those of you who had the update done! What are you supposed to do with your $300+ can you have paid for that is now useless?!?! Wonder if Poo is going to foot the bill on that too? (yeah, right)

The fitment is different. The can off the '07 fits on the '10 but not the '09. Polaris changed something for 08 and 09. The '10 fits up differently than the previous years.

So your saying it doesn't fit? Or the doesn't fit as in it provides the wrong amount of back pressure? Didn't think a can did much of anything for back pressure at all. My 08 has the stock 08 pipe, and the update, can was bought was bought and installed when the sled was new. Still fits greats. It should seeing as the pipe is the same. So now I'm confused. Are we risking engine damage by running it?

I would go with the SLP can Polaris and SLP are like bread and butter, work very close with one another and are made with that motor in mind. they work well on other sleds to but I think they are easyer on the poo.

Just my two penny's

interesting. thanks.... although of the five guys I know with an 09 800 they are all running the same can now after the update, as they did before? Or do you mean they don't work if you buy a 2010 800, like the sled, and want to use the 09 can? Sorry I'm just confused.

you got it. they won't work if you want to use your 09 can on a 2010 sled.

Can

well how does this work ?? my 08 dragon 800 can fit on my 09 800,why cant i put that same can on my 2010 ? fits the same and according to scott at hps it will be fine, the 08 and 09 cans for the dragon were the same :confused: wtf

If anyone has an 09 and 10 next to each other pictures would be awesome. I am curious to see how they changed. I can post up pics of a 2009 Assault if you like.
