How was Expo??

After last years it was probably a good thing. Hope that this year they turn things around and get the Expo back up to speed! But then there is always Hillclimb!

You didn't miss anything. Yamaha was inside this year......I think I heard crickets when I walked by!!!!!! A/C seems like they have some good stuff going on with the Boss seat option, new tunnel (hardly covers the track), and adjustable steering post. I may start skipping out on Expo and just wait to see the sleds in Jackson. It has been a great snow year in West this season.

Those weren't crickets, that was the floor creaking under the weight of the sleds.

I remember when the Expo was huge. Seems like all the aftermarket venders have left as well.

If you didn't go, you didn't miss a thing... It's nice to see the new sleds but as for the rest of the expo, I'm not sure it's worth the $15... Seems like every year it gets smaller and smaller... I think there were more "non-sledding" booths than there were the other. (at least it felt that way) Might just have to be the last year that I go...

It's too bad that they charge you $15 to go look at products that you may want to purchase in the future. You would think that the manufacturers and vendors would want people to be able to see their products for free.

15 bucks gets you into everything including snocross and drags was a good time and good peeps you should get involved!!!

????

As a manufacture and vendor at expo, I can say I would love to show you our products at no charge, every other vendor there would as well.
Thats not in our control. Someone needs to organize this type of event and that cost alot of $. the vendors pay for space. I had a great time this year,
we meet lots of really great peaple, and got in some fantastic night riding.
Perhaps the reason expo has shrinked a bit, is land use issues. what did you do to help prevent that? Maybe next time it will be your hometown riding area.

Let Snowest know!

As a vendor at Expo, I have had mixed feelings the last couple of years as we too see it shrinking, but nothing is changing. This year was better than last year for us, so that was encouraging. Hotels were full, that was encouraging too!

I think Marge at the Chamber of Commerce in West Yellowstone deserves a huge THANKS for the tough job that she has putting this thing together. I have planned and overseen many events and I know what it takes to get it done, how hard it is to please everyone, and know that the hardest part is to have people who are unhappy come unglued on you about it! THANKS MARGE!

I would love to see SnoWest and the Chamber from West contact some of us vendors and have a meeting to discuss options and changes that could be made for the betterment of this event. We have all been to a great show and we have all been to a not-so-great show, and we know what has worked for us - let us help guide the planning. Maybe we could all pitch in or donate something that would help!!!

I encourage everyone who has input into Expo to contact SnoWest and let them know your thoughts - remember how much work it is too - be nice and constructive! They won't change if they think things are okay.

Thank you to all of you who stopped by to say hi! We had a super great time and loved meeting past customers and making new ones!

:) 2fun

Our results were encouraging even though there really didn't seem to be as many people in the vending area.

My vendor/dealer comment sheet will have the following suggestions that I think will bring more people and enhance the experience for both vendors and the general public.

VENDING EXPO FREE ATTENDANCE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
(raise our booth space fees slightly, get it sponsored by the factories, The Chamber simply forego that money to save your event, get it sponsored by the HOLIDAY INN who is the single biggest benefactor financially of EXPO)

FRIDAY OPEN VENDING AREA from 5pm to 8pm for private industry/dealer/racer,crew,family/vip only. Put out no host bar, hors o'dourves ect pay for it by getting it sponsored..hell I'LL SPONSOR IT!
Aftermarket vendors do a huge portion of our business with other industry people and this gives us uninterupted access networking with each other which is the major show benefit for vendors. Organize it and lay it out so we get this time and opportunity. That alone makes the rest of the cost and hassle worth doing.

SATURDAY/SUNDAY ONLY FREE ADMITTANCE general public vending from 10 am to 5 pm

PLEASE GET SOME OUTSIDE ENTERTAINMENT
(extreme jumping and decent bands generally do it) (please no more senior polka bands or karoke...holy crap what a buzz kill by the Holiday Inn and Stage Coach) At least we got to go to bed early and save up our energy/money for JACKSON HOLE!!!! You want to talk about crickets. Slowest I've ever seen the expo party seen in my entire EXPO LIFE. BOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo

Adding on...........

When you call the Holiday Inn, there isn't even a special rate for those vending or attending Expo! This is WRONG! There should be encouragement from the Holiday Inn to stay in their establishment

If new vendors are to be encouraged, raising the booth space fee is only going to drive people away. I have attended bigger vendor shows in a building and only paid $200 for a space - I have to disagree with raising the booth fees.

I totally agree - no public vending on Friday! This is really a one day show being drawn out to 3!!! A networking event for vendors and industry professionals would be GREAT!

SATURDAY/SUNDAY ONLY FREE ADMITTANCE general public vending from 10 am to 5 pm
I would advocate for that too - it would also give the vendors an opportunity to patronize the town and enjoy ourselves.

This was the PERFECT band for a warm summer day, drinking red wine on a grassy area and dancing barefoot. Not an event like this. The Holiday Inn lost thousands because of the band choice. In years past the rooms have been packed, standing room only - not empty tables everywhere you looked.

Lots of comments about no big air too!

This should be an event that all snowmobilers look forward to each year and there should be enough events going on that they have to give up one that they really want to go to for another that they want to go to more!

Another comment that I would make is - get some outside help! There is nobody who can give suggestions and ideas better than someone who has been there.............ask the vendors and industry professionals!

Give the vendors something for coming and buying a booth - could be in the form of:
  • discounted rooms
  • coupons in a vendor packet for a free drink in the hotel bar (you know we'll buy more!)
  • $5 off dinner at a restaurant,
  • offer us a $25 discount on our booth next year if we sign up by a certain date
  • Free advertising in the expo program for booth payment by a certain date
  • come around to the booths, take some photos and ask some questions about products - use those interviews and photos in upcoming editions of the magazines
  • Design a postcard (printable and emailable) and ask vendors to distribute them to their customer list.
  • Be sure that dealerships are putting up posters about Expo (can't tell you that i've EVER seen advertising for the event!

All of these ideas could be used in one form or another to encourage attendance - afterall, the attendees are what make this worthwile for the vendors and the planners! Can't forget that!!!

Okay - I could keep listing things, but you get the idea! A little marketing goes a long way!

Whew - tired now.

I think F-Bomb and 2Fun are onto something I hope your comments get through to the people at West.

Totally unrelated but the same thing happened a few years ago at New Years. Holiday Inn hired a folk band to play. The bar was packed ... the band started to play .... everyone left. It was horrible! What a costly decision. Sounds like the same turd is still in charge.

I was kind of shocked by the 15.00 fee to get in to was is basicly a store, after buying 4.00 fuel to get there.......................

The big 4 should pick a big part of the tab and west yellowstone chamber pick up the rest, how much money does this bring to west:eek:

it was my first visit and may be my last:confused:

So much for Expo

Well cant say as I didn't expect to hear this. Was a little worried about missing one (first in ten years) But after last year I could not justify going. Good thing in a week it will all be here in Jackson !!! Maybe there will be a shift if local club keeps up the good work!?! Plus 2 days of big air!:beer;:beer;
