Just wondering if anyone has any pics of how they have there pack set up. I finally got all of my gear for going out west and I'm not sure how I want to put all of this crap in my pack. I see the pack has a compartment type thing on the outside that I'm assuming is for the shovel blade? What about your handle and probe? Does anyone put there beacon in there pack or always wear them on there body? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

It's a Demon - Charger riding pack. I tried to order a HMK Backcountry pack but they were all on back order. It seems like a good pack...a little heavy.

Beacon ON your body, under your zipped up jacket (if not zipped, then it does need to be under a layer of clothing), and maybe a layer of clothes.

This is how mine is set up. Full pack.

Probe, saw. That would be it, everything else is in my coat or sled. Hope this helps..

put what you need to get to LEAST quickly on the bottom. extra gloves, extra warm/dry clothes, etc... things you will regularly access on top....i.e. sunglasses, camera, etc.. first aid type stuff in an extra pocket if you have one. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING>>>>>NO PLASTIC SHOVEL!!!! if you need to dig someone out in an avy, you will be F*ck'd. great for digging out a stuck sled, she-ite for digging set avy snow. i actually have the digging edge of my shovel sharpened. chances are you there may be limb debris, etc... in the snow you will be digging. as the kittylady said, keep you beacon ON YOU and under clothing....i still want to be able to get to it in pretty short order.....you will need to get it switched to search mode to search for your buddy. TAKE AN AVY COURSE!!!!!!!! if you are from the flatlands (i was years ago), you really, really need to take a couple hours and do this. even if you are only in town for a few days. you will learn a lot and actually enjoy yourself. get some local info.

yep, fleece and thick gloves in the bottom. food and xtra light gloves somewhere around the middle. emergency and often used items at the top. try to keep you liquids out of your pack and in the sled. the containers can leak/break and many people have hurt themselves on hard surfaces after landin on them. keep your beacon under as many layers as possible.

Pack setup? Consider an ABS pack. Chances are your sled is worth more than your pack. What's your life worth? Why not give yourself a leg up in the event that you make a bad decision. It's a no brainer for this guy, almost everyone that I ride with is wearing one.

I carry an Ortovox Expert. Now that's a shovel. It fits in my Klim Nac Pac perfectly (tightly).
hickster

avy packs are the chit!! I carry extra gloves, goggles, plugs, food, flares and untill I got the tunnel bag, a GOOD tool kit.(work on my sled w/ my tool kit at home, that way I know I have the tools I need in the field):beer; I have had a camel pak guts in mine also, if you blow back in the tube after you take a drink it doesn't freeze and if it does when its good and cold its only the valve in the end just chew on it a little and it opens back up. this is real nice if you ride hard with few stops( make sure the camel pak end is a 90* so it fits inside your helmet)

I sure wouldnt want to take that shovel handle in the head...it sure sticks outta your pack a long ways:confused:

That is what drove me crazy! The handle was always knocking on my helmet.
I went with a Deploy 3. The handle slides into the shovel blade. If I had it to do over. I would get the Deploy 7, it is larger with a longer sliding handle.
