How to put a bigger lug on a 2010 XtX without taking off cooler protector?

Can I go to a 1.75 or 2" without taking off the cooler protector or do I have to? How much greater are my chances of hurting the cooler that way? Thanks, Brad.

The cooler itself or the protector? How is Yamaha doing the 1.75 on their new xtx?

The cooler stays, just cut the protectors off of the cooler. I used an air powered cut off wheel. Its not a bad job to do while you have the drive axle out. You'll want to cut just the welds that hold the protectors to the cooler. Main thing is to take your time and not grind to deep into the cooler.

The tunnel protectors will need to come out also. I removed the seat and drilled out the rivits that hold the tunnel protectors on. This is fairly easy to do while the skid and track are out.:thumb:

Not sure how Yammy is doing it on the new sled with they're 1.75". If they are still using the 9 tooth driver, then most likely they are not installing the protectors from the factory. Or they could be using a 8 tooth driver which would gain some clearance.

Sorry about that, I meant cooler protectors. You will need to pull the skid, track, seat, tank, exhaust and headers in order to do it correctly. A dye grinder works really well, Just take your time and make sure not to cut into the cooler at the bulkhead. That will accommodate a 1.75 just fine with stock drivers.

If you want a 2" track I would drop to at least 8 tooth drivers for space reasons and airflow.

And there is no protectors on the 2013 xtx's.

You can also buy a notched track in certain lengths. You might check to see if one is available in the size ou want. It has the track notched in the area of the protectors.
