How to make a M1000 153" work

My buddy has an 08 M1000 153" and he can't seem to get the rear suspension to work right. We did the Geo mod to it and that helped but it still trenches. Would he be better off with a 162"? Or what else can we do to solve this? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kory

Get the 162. The 1000 needs the extra flotation. I have had both and would never ride a 1000 153 again. My brother has fought trying to get an 08 1000 to float for the last 2 years. He is putting a 162 on it as we speak.

I have that same setup and I haven't had trenching problems. I have my floats set around 120 I think since I am not very heavy. The sled does squat pretty bad on a trail or trailer but never had any issues with it in the deep with respect to trenching.

oddly enough one thing that helps is to lower the front mounting point to the lower hole (look at it from the inside, you'll see what I'm talking about) this helps the sled get on plane better.

Long sleds are boring. I have no problems with my 141, so to say that you need the extra flotation beyond a 153 is total BS. I ride big alpine areas, big climbs, deep pow & we have only 1 guy we know with a 162, it has nothing on the other sleds.

One big thing that would help is getting the new track though, it works very well.

A power claw is a must, but as far as suspension goes you want very little preload on the front skid shock. with out any weight on the skid loosen the front skid spring until there is no load on it then tighten it up about 3/4 of an inch then add 145-150psi in the rear. If still trenching take almost all the pressure off the front skid spring and try that, then maybe tighten up your limiter straps, if it still trenches then you need a 162. I have seen 153 work well, a 162 will always float better. I cranked up my front skid spring almost all the way once last year just to see what would happen and it was embarrassing how bad it trenched, got beat by a m7. set it up this way and was climbing farther than anyone. The geo mod is for transfer letting the track drop farther into the snow(may not be the best for powder riding). Think about it and what you want to happen is as the track makes contact with the snow you want it to keep grabbing more as it moves from the front of the track to the back, so if the front of the skid is spinning all the snow out, the back is just falling in its hole and you have the effect of a short track.
