How to get rid of chat

OK I'm a dummy, I go to userCP, I select forum options and I go to the very bottom of the list and all that is there is edit the countdown. Where do I go to get rid off this chat thing? Why do I have to lose this chat option in the first place? Why isn't it set up so if you want it you turn it on instead of if you don't want it you have to turn it off?

I followed the posted instructions and it worked for me. I do not see any countdown edit option when I disabled mine. Yours apparently displays differently or something. Sorry I couldn't help. I got rid of it on my account, thanks for the prompt.

Don't go by the list on the left of the page, go to the right side and way at the bottom there is a place to opt out. I've had to do it twice now! I also have to shrink the page to see it all, I can't move my border far enough to get it all in. Of course I can load thumb nails on the first try either, have to try to load them, click off and then load them...sucks!

Well the chat box is turned off and I didn't do it so to the moderator or whoever helped me out thank you. I was looking at the list on he left of the page, I didn't have anything on the other side, but when I went to my usercp now it's showing me a different page than earlier? Oh well. it's gone, thanks to whoever.
