how to check clutch?

My 13 pro rmk is starting to feel old. its not as responsive and can only get to 7600-7900 rpm. on trail it will sometime go to 8000.

I did have DET codes before this happen. I think the reason for the det's is because i didn't get the oil cap on properly, and hood flooded with oil. once i cleaned the engine with alot of snow the det went away.

I know the pistons might be done, and will check comp, and check ves valves. and i will check the clutch. but i dont know what to look for... some input would be nice.

Something wierd happen to the secundary this weekend. It loocked open. or it seemed the belt somehow got stuck. I just needed to get it moving and it worked again.

How many miles? Have you ever changed the springs? Around 2000 miles the clutch weight bushings can start getting worn out an digging into the spider if not replaced. Same mileage the spider pucks start getting worn and can use a shim in them to tighten up the slop.

I'd be more concerned with the det code. Never heard of a oil cap loose and oil spilling on stuff causing a problem. Lots if oil tanks get egg shaped too so this has happened to several people me included.

You need to go through the secondary, first. Stuck could be bushing, rollers, spring. Clean, inspect, both clutches, new belt. Anything else chasing RPM problems is guessing. Then, don't discount VES, spark, fuel filter, etc.
