how many miles do you put on a belt before you change it?

I ride a 05 900 polaris and I put a new belt on every November whether it needs one or not. I put about 900 miles on per year and most of it is climbing.

I've been buying a new one at the beginning of each year, whether it needs it or not. Then I know it's nice and fresh AND have a good spare.

I have put on just under 3000km this year so far and I'm on my third belt. We have had a lot of deep powder days and we may not stop enough to let the belt cool down. The only trail riding we do is to get into an area so most of My kms are (carvin and climbin) The belt are stringing out so when it get to bad I switch. Had my first belt explode when I was turning out of a climb and was really lucky that I could stop it from rolling to the bottom. Anybody getting any miles out of a strung out belt?

I run the 8dn yammy belt. I change it when it can't ride where it needs to, I'll let you know when. so far 3k on this one and only lost about .020 in width. I did pop a few ultimax's but never killed an 8dn.

3211087 4 belts in 7 rides:devil:

im going to try 3211115

I had about 300 miles on my original 115 belt...burned it a little once when the sled was stuck bad and the snow was so packed in the track would not turn. You could feel just a little jump when first starting moving. Bought the cheaper 080 I think it was to try out and after about 200 miles the second day of hard riding at Cooke City it started coming apart. Was so hot I could not touch it. That was after several lond side hill pulls at WOT one right after the other. Put the original belt back on and now have about 1200 miles on the sled. 1000 of them on that original 115 and it is still doing great. Might have to retire it to the spare for next year just for general purposes.

i'm runing a 1200 w/c in a edge by the way :beer;:beer;

change them out at about 1500k just cause. Still look good but wouldnt want to break one in the wrong place.

The M8's are incredible for belt life. I change them out at 700 miles just for maintenance. I have a fresh belt on the sled, and a 700 mile belt in the holder that will get me out of the backcountry should I have a belt problem. I also use the spare if I need to tow somebody.
I can relate to the 350 mile belt change, my 04 900, and my 05 M8 big bore wouldn't hold R's on a climb after 350 miles. Change the belt and they were solid again.

Put on 2169 on my '08 600's belt before changing it just because I wanted to. Original is still same width as new, still held out good, but will run the new one the rest of the season. Don't look like I'll need a new belt for a couple more seasons.
