How is Kakwa right now? Anyone been there yet this year?

Rode Kakwa friday and saturday. We were very weary of avy conditions till we dug pits on Mt. Ruth and Mt. Sir Alexander this warm weather looks to have settled those weak layers and fluff and has turned into a safe base.

Sunny warm and hero snow!! Awesome conditions for exploring!!

That avy into lelace lake was pretty major, powerful enough to break up the ice on the lake for about 200 yards. There were a few other very large ones on some of the slopes heading into the lake also. They were all about a week old i'd say, nothing really recent.

So upnover you have any plans for the end of this month? You and the newf should make the trek to Grande Prairie and we will head into kakwa!!

checking out the Kakwa area

Hello. I'm a CAC avalanche forecaster and I'm planning a trip to check out the Kakwa area in early February. I'm hoping to check out the terrain and complete a few trip ratings (ATES ratings). I'm a skier without a sled hoping to meet up with some locals for a tour of the area. Give me a shout if you feel like guiding me around for a day or two. I would really appreciate your help.

Peter

Nice sounds like it's getting better there now. That's awesome. Might be able to make a trip this year after all.

Wow, Laglace lake slide looks like it almost hit the trail where you come in! Nice pics.

Yea me and Shaw are going in with Andrew and Farrell too...hopefully make it all the way in this time lol

Anyone heading in tomorrow by chance?? We'll be the amateurs with a red GEN 2 rmk and a black n yellow Switch.

Bet ya kakwa has about three feet of fresh light pow right now. Whoever gets in there before it gets windblown or settles will be in for a serious treat!!

I will be there early Friday, cant wait. Hopefully it warms up like the weather station says. Any one else for Friday?
