how hot are pros?

how hot do the pros actually run in marginal snow conditions? with scratchers down? how hot is too hot?

does the standard rmk with the extra cooler really make that much of a difference? does the extra cooler, chain case, and aluminum over structure really make it a better sled than the pro?

our sierra snow is typically more marginal and set-up than deep powder.
i have a proclimb with a short front cooler only and always have to run scratchers down unless it is deep. doesn’t seem like a big deal

thanks

They should run at about 125 to 130. When it gets to about 145 is when it wouldn't be a bad idea to stop and let it cool off. the sled will shut down before it gets to hot.

I don't think they run any hotter than the others. Just seems like being able to see the temp on the gauge makes it worse. lol. I use to see the idiot light flash on my M once in awhile which I think is 175ish and the highest I've seen on my pro was in the 150s. That was on a 5 mile stretch of glare ice road.

If you want a comparison of the two (Cat front cooler and minimal Pro) here's my experience and I ride until the bitter end (sometimes it is just me and the marmots out there lol).
Had a '12 HCR and kept it in Dealer mode on the gauge to watch temps and report back to my dealer because it was a new thing (short front cooler) and now have the Pro.
On the trail up, both need scratchers and you need to start to increase speed as soon as you get about 10 degrees over normal. This has always kept me in a good temp range. On the way down no probs with either (scratchers down).
Up top if you ride aggressive (dirt bikin' style) in the open (try to rip through crust, drift tops, pillow blocks) niether one has ever given me a problem. Sunday spring rides I have to do my own thing or stop and open up the panels and enjoy the sun. You just can't putt around with a group of full cooler sleds. That's OK for me.
Spring in the trees, I learned a long time ago if you rip into and out of tree wells you will always find the soft snow. The short front cooler required me to sink it into the top of a tree well and kick in snow up the tunnel and wait many times. The Pro has not required this . I think the longer coolers use the tunnel as a heat sink better.
This is with the 28 dollar mod and have never run a pro stock in the spring.

Ran my standard RMK for about 300 miles on hard pack MN trail. Never seen over 130. Most of the time 120-122.

I have run my pro beside an assault rmk on icy trails and the assault was always 30 degrees cooler (i hit 175 once and had to stop and pack snow on the tunnel, this was with scratchers down). We had some 4 stroke yammys with us that were getting hot as well. In snow the assault was 125 and my pro was 102 (with terra alps stat), i ran 125ish in snow prior to the terra alps.

So yes the extra cooler makes a difference if you ride a decent amount of trails or spring/marginal snow riding.

My '11 PRO is basically the same as a std rmk now but without the extra cooler.

I thought the assault did NOT have the extra cooler. just the same cooling as the pro???

155 to 190 hard pack w scratchers down while riding in wife mode (25mph)... same snow conditions riding with friend 140 deg f (45-50 mph) When snow softened later in day 128- 133 most of time. Off trail 122 deg f consistently. I have an aftermarket larger flap which doesn't seem to help much.

You are correct. The tunnel cooler in the Pro-RMK is the same as the Assault-RMK. Neither have a front coller.

The standard RMK is the sled with the front cooler.

And to answer the OP question, yes the standard RMK cools much better in marginal snow conditions.

I should have been more clear, an assault switchback. They have the bulkhead cooler.

I demoed a Pro on thursday. ran scratchers down all day just like my Proclimb. never saw an issue... but actually never checked the temps either

MY13 RMK Assault stock always ran in the 128-132 range while playing in powder(to hot for my liking) So i did the $28 Mod and now it runs at 105-110. And the sled feels a lot more responsive. And i dont have to run with the temp. gauge displayed anymore.

Yea what he says

Definitely a difference between ethanol and non ethanol mode. Ethanol mode on the wooped trails to the deep will give me better temps. When I get to the deep I switch to the non ethanol mode for the better timing and power curve.

I had mine to 220 once last year, wasn't paying attention in the trees and it went into limp mode. Ran at 160-170 all day yesterday in spring snow.

The Polaris shop Manual for the 800 Pro states that the temp light will come on at 230 degrees at an Idle 185 Degrees WOT. The hot lamp will flash and you will get an RPM Misfire at 239 degrees at an Idle, and 208 degrees WOT. So for those that are worried about the 160 running temp on the new Pro, Don't
