How has your experience with your turbo been?

fun

2010 m8 sp 162 with bd rg ic . been totaly happy withb the kit and service from bd withb that said what i like most. when your'e climbing that hill clawing your'e way up tached out pulling for all it's worth just barely moving leaning out over the hood holding the skis down turbo spooling and then that moment of decision turn or die, just keep going and then 5-6 miles per hour speed over ground then8-10 then 10-12 then as you crest the top you smile and say holy@@@@ thats REAL POWER. to much fun ride safe David

I must be one of the few that actually hates my turbo. It sits in the garage 90% of the time as I'd much rather ride my stocker. I can ride the piss out of it and not worry about gauges, detonation, or a random bog the one time I need it to do something. If something breaks, warranty. I also go through a TON more fuel (35L on stocker and easily close to 60L on turbo). They are fun but they are not without their drawbacks.

To me though, someone who is going to ride a turbo would otherwise be on a big bore or at least a very modified sled. Comparing a turbo to a stocker is like comparing a camry to a lambo, two very different worlds.

That said, I've now got 1200 miles on the 2nd cutler stage II. had a stuck BOV (belt thread... duh), and I broke the boost nipple from rolling the sled (relocated the box afterwards so it can't get hit again). I've had a couple very minor burbles at 5500ish that took a bit of tuning (added some yellow, and green blue)
I run a short track on this one, so a lot more time is spent at full throttle than the other one. No reed issues so far, but they seemed kinda brittle at 850 when we checked, so we just slapped new ones in, not sure how much longer they would have lasted, but 850 miles of hammer down riding at 11.5 psi (found that's a real happy spot on this sled, 11.5-12.5) on a set of reeds is decent in my book.

Having to do a bit of tuning was different from our 09 (not tough, but needed to be done) and the 11 needs way more octane, my biggest complaint.

I've gotten much better belt life on both of the turbos than on ANY 1000 I've run now, VERY happy with that.

With a chunk of miles on sled 2 now (and even more on #1) I couldn't imagine not riding a turbo again. I've had little issues, but by this time on my 1000's I'd have spent way more on belts & would have done a top end already.

oh, both of mine burn less fuel than my 1000's have (MUCH less than my piped 1000's), I thought that was just because my wife was riding the other one, but I'm surprised that mine has been that way.

After the first few rides the tuning I do is so minimal that most think I havent tuned the sled since. Its easier than looking at the gas gauge and adding fuel. I adjust boost to the fuel i'm running make one or 2 passes on a hill to check guages and tuning and then I never look again. Get the right kit and setup and you are good to go.

Apex 2554 gt stage 1 bd setup...4000 plus miles and only changed plugs, 2 belts, and replaced the chaincase chain twice for ease of mind. 2011 Nytro push turbo 8 lbs boost...8,000 miles(not all mine) run on 85 octane no headshim, no intercooler and still going strong! Would like to ride the new 1100T to see what happens? Looks like a sweet sled and lots of modifying potential.

Not a thread of this kit vs that kit turning into a pissing match. Lets just hear about your kit and honest thoughts. From the purchase to install, tunning and reliability. Pump gas race gas, BD,twisted, Push, Cutler ect... Im on the fence and would like to hear peeps thoughts. Thanks guys

Turbos are a blast!

A think a lot of guy don't bring up some of the problems thay have had, I know I don't like to.

Some guys should not have a turbo on a sled, or even a set of pipes for that matter.

You have to have a good understanding on tuning and know how the sled is running.

I was at the Cat dealer this winter and was talking to some turbo hound that had his sled in for a top end.

He told me his 1000 was putting out 420hp, after talking to him for a bit I relized that he did not have a AF gauge or EGTs on it... well he didn't have 420 hp as well..... WTF. I wonder how his winter went.

A good install and understanding how to tune it, will make your face will hurt from grinning during boost :high5:

I really think that a good install is a huge issue. From wires & boost tubes being routed well to a solid initial setup, I really feel it makes a big difference. Most of the guys I know of with issues did the install themselves.

09 TM901 PG/RG boonie Turbo sno pro 153

It took some time to learn the boost curve, but runs awesome, but is not a pull and go it takes some tweaking to be right but I run anywhere from 4000 to 8000 feet with temps from -10 to 60 above, box needs to be enrichened for higher temps and enrichened for lower elevations

2011 M8 with a BD pump gas. Running straight AV at 1300 ft . Boost at 7.5 lbs. Runs awsome no issues. Install very nice. Work done by Don's Speed Parts.

Are you running the stock 2011 Head? Or timming key?

Jason

Been a "big bore, port and pipe", "turbos are a passing fad", snowmobiler for lots of years.

Been playing with turbos only the last two years.....WOW!

I've had great support from the folks at OVS. Couldn't be happier!

I do think it's like owning a Lamborgini: ya gotta fully understand what you're dealing with, or be prepared to pay the guy who does!

I too have a VOHK 2011 M8 Pg turbo . kit is the non intercooled PG boondocker. LOVE IT. this is my 6th turbo sled and the best so far. 2011 head. no timing change. pump gas at 6 lbs at 11000 ft. any more boost and I can hit the det sensor. I dont need much more, my RaceGas 2007 M1000 was unridable at 13 lbs. this sled is my daily driver and I am always looking for another one.

would do the same with Eric building it again- for about $1100 in Labor and a discount on the price of a sled, I didnt cut my hands or get burned or even dirty. just met him at Rabbit ears pass to try it out and ride with him, then never looked back.
