How has your experience with your turbo been?

I run a 03 Firecat Mod with a Bikeman 800 and a Boondocker RG Set up with no intercooler, run lower boost, usually 10lbs at 3000ft and up. Not a single problem and it runs really hard.

This year Im running an 08 TM1000 with Boondocker RG set up with intercooler, and it flat out RIPS!....10-12lbs all day long, day in and out and not a problem. Absolutely KILLS M8 turbos and Dragons running alot more boost.

Boondocker seems to get alot of bad press on here but I would not hesistate to buy another one. Its all in the install.

I run straight pump up to 6lbs on a twisted sometimes 7lbs but thats risky. On the BD kits I have seen 8lbs on straight pump. From what I have seen this is the first year BD has had a kit I would call pull and go.

I did a couple things to my M8 and run 12-14lbs on 91 pump fuel with no troubles. I agree its all in the install as well. And would agree that there really is only 3 builders I would use cuz they are there for you after the sale. They arent just wantin your money and run they actually want you to be able to ride your sled trouble free. Dale has been amazing in helping me out. And Derek at attitude has helped a bunch to. Cant forget all the guys that make a kit work.:face-icon-small-hap

Experience: Horrible!!

Would I do it again? Not for quite some time. I'd have been 100 times more happy with a bigbore and wish that's what I had. I still have to get 300 miles on my hcr after it's been turboed and I've pretty much lost interest in sledding because of it.
Pretty hard to stay excited about a turbo when the only thing on your mind is why isn't my POS running right or how much is it going to cost this time.

And the rare time that it has ran good.... for the amount that I get to ride per season, I don't belong on a 250+ hp sled. I belong on a 185hp sled.

900 almost trouble free miles on a 2010 M8 w/ a Boondockers PG Kit, running 6.5 lbs. I haven't touched the box since initial setup. DD grenaded at 600 miles and a overtightened helix sheered off, but the kit has been great. My buddies say it doesn't sound or feel like a turbo, but a really really good running bigbore.

Alot of people on here will naysay a pump gas kit, but I couldn't be happier and don't plan to upgrade. I've had a CPC Stage 3 M1000 and a Propane TNytro, and for me a PGM8 is just what I want. Unless all of your riding partners are running race gas, pump gas turbos may be all the fun you need.

Now a quick question with the boondocker set up has anyone had any oil tank issues or would you rather run a set up like I can't remember who's but it has Internally cooled bearings and no oil tank

GREAT! I put a pg push tial kit on my m8 this year. I will never go back to stock! I have put1200-1300 miles on it with only a couple minor issues. The best thing about it I live at 900 ft alt. And ride it here up to 10000 ft. Out west and don't have to change my clutching anymore. I run it at 8lbs and other than changing plugs at 500 miles and put in a set of reeds at 1100 its been all smiles!

Which kit can be a true PUMP gas premium only setup? No mixing "just to be safe" BS... Pump 91 ONLY.

I've been so spoiled with the bullet proof turbo Nytro on 91 octane pump gas.
I never worry about cold temps, mid range leaness, WOT EGTs, blah blah etc.
I turn key, pull trigger, and focus my mind and eyes on the terrain...not gauges and concern about lean spots.

Is their a kit/2 stroke to that point yet?

I have no problem running safe boost and forgetting it..
Are any pump gas kits adjustable, at all?
The one thing I'd consider a bonus, is adjusting boost to keep clutching working from low elevation to high elevation changes. And I mean a change in riding areas. From 5k ft, to 10k+ ft.

For the record, I'm not saying a Nytro is better, or that Cat/turbos suck, I'm really just looking for some honest info on the subject.
I'm really wondering if I can honestly expect the stupid simple, bullet proofness I get from my Impulse Nytro in a Cat turbo..

Man you must have been reading my mind. I sold my Tnytro which I ran @ 17 lbs on ave gas for 2000 turn key and go miles. I would like something more flick able as I am getting older(56):brokenheart: BUT I still want the horse power and would not want any less than 240. Is there that much difference between the 2010 1000 and the 800 for easy tree riding? And how much difference in go power in the deep stuff??? Thanks guys, and maybe mention how much boost you are running with your kits. as I will run av gas again .. It's gonna be a cat just WHICH cat???..Cheers

Ran av gas all day yesterday at 10lbs even in the tight trees and it was great, you think your stuck and it just pulls the skis and takes off, another great day.

I mentioned above I primarily ride an 08 M1000. It has a few goodies to shed weight like spindles, mods skis,BDX DD Lite, reflashed for engine reverse, 2011 seat update etc. Boondocker RG turbo fully updated to 2011 specs with the ADA no EBC. Was running it at 11lbs for most the day yesterday in 3' of fresh but not fluffy snow and it destroyed turbo dragon 8s and a couple well running M8 turbos running 15-16lbs of boost.

The M1000 on boost is extremely flickable and has so much torque for tree riding and technical riding it makes it a blast to ride in all conditions. 1100+miles on this kit and could not be happier!!

I would think at lower boost on AV gas the M1 Turbo will stomp the 8s with ease. That being said though.....the M8T sleds run really strong.

I put a 2010 BD PG kit on my 09' M8 this fall, got it dialed in on pump gas @ 9 psi and it ran great.

Then I got greedy.

I couldn't ever get it clutched for 12 psi the way I liked it, so I went back to BD's pump gas clutching and its much better that way for boondocking.

The only issues I've actually had with the kit was that the LCD screen on the BD box failed. BD warranted it and had it back to me inside a week.

BD was also very good walking me through the wiring on the wiring for the RG upgrade, etc .... I can't complain at all about the support I've gotten from BD and Code Red.

With all that said however, if you mainly boondock, just run the PG kit, the throttle response is better without AV gas or race gas which is what you want boondocking .... if you climb hills, run the race gas kit ..

Also, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have done the IC ... no need for it on a pump gas kit.

My $0.02.

turbo

Turned my g kit up Saturday to 12 lb and it was a blast..let a couple of peps ride it and all they could say was wow. It was a blast pulled some fun shoots little to much in the tight trees but heck it was a blast.

I will never have a non turbo sled. I just will not go.

I must be one of the few that actually hates my turbo. It sits in the garage 90% of the time as I'd much rather ride my stocker. I can ride the piss out of it and not worry about gauges, detonation, or a random bog the one time I need it to do something. If something breaks, warranty. I also go through a TON more fuel (35L on stocker and easily close to 60L on turbo). They are fun but they are not without their drawbacks.

My experience with turbo's has been good.

Currently riding 2010 M8 with OVS Tial kit. Running 112 Sunoco at 10lbs. Sled started out with a nasty bog down low that was cured with a 2011 ECU. Now the sled rips from bottom to top. I've learned to keep an eye on the exhaust connections and keep them snug. I've also learned to not hit the kill switch after a long pull. Let the sled "idle down" before shutting it off or it will flood.

Taking a few minutes in the garage making sure oil is full, connections are tight with no leaks and all hoses and wires are routed cleanly is key. With my Cat, I had a few head scratchers early-on, but it was simple fixes and I'm really comfortable now. Once the PL box is set, haven't touched it once :)

2009 Dragon BD turbo. Runs great at 10-12 lbs, takes some tweaking with the box depending on elevation and temps. Keep the reed's in good shape and change the fuel filter often and the sled works great.

How much extra fuel does your turbo burn?

if I'm doing basic meadow bashing / boondocking I typically get about 80 miles on 9-9.5 gallons of gas, hill climbing less.

I figure that by the time I hit 70 miles I need to be on the trail back to the truck.

I do carry a spare 2.5 gal that I've never had to use yet.

My experience - much better than I thought possible!

I'm riding a VOHK built and tuned BoonDocker low pressure kit on an '11 M8. I have 28 flawless rides on it so far and continue to be happier and happier with the whole sled and highly recommend others to give turbos a shot if they are thinking about it.

This far, terrible. I have a m1000 and I really am beginning to hate the thing. I've been out 8-9 times this year, and only one ride without issues, 2 times pulled out, 4 times got less than 4 miles down the trail, and the other 2 was able to limp her out from the back country.

MAG lower rod bearing seized up, I've had issues with my fuel regulator, which in hinsight has probably caused detonation a couple of times and led to piston failure, and now IJ am over boosting and obviously had deto as my PTO side ring land is broke, again.

I'm calling it a year and there is a foot of fresh down low, its been and INCREDIBLE snow season and I've spent it on the sidelines.

That being said, I'm a sucker and will probalby try to get it all straighten out next year and try again. Hope it goes better.
