How far is your daily commute?

My current work is a short 5 minute drive across town. I'm looking for a new job and have found a couple positions that are located out of town. I'm not really interested in re-locating right now, so I'd be stuck with a commute.

Current opportunity would be about a 60 mile (all highway) drive each way. The new gig would be a step up with better pay. It would also be something that I'm more interested in doing and I think my overall job satisfaction would increase.

Just wondering what other people are doing and have for opinions/experiences. With my current job, I deal daily with people from heavily populated areas where they drive 1-3 hours to go a mere 30 miles..so i know i could have it alot worse.

My drive is about 8 minutes, from 8500 feet to about 8700 feet, easy.

My husband on the other hand drives across the divide twice a day & drives about 100 to 200 miles a day, he's not driving in an urban area & it's in the mountains, so he doesn't mind the drive.

If it was city driving, either of us would go nuts with anything over 10 minutes!!

I deal with national accounts so people I was talking about are in other parts of the country...southern California, Washington State areas.

Any chance of telecommuting? A lot of computer/phone-based service is going this way. If most of your work is on the computer or phone, that might be something to bring up.

My commute's about 5 miles. I've done the hour-long commute each way, and it gets to be a drag after a while.

80 miles over Teton Pass. Good excuse to fly but on the road it gets old, especially this time of year when the amigos are confused by the snow, the automobile, and smart phones simultaneously.

I used to drive 56 miles each way to and from work every day and it sucked at first getting used to all of the time in the car but after a while it was the 'norm'. We carpooled with 3-4 people to help with wear and tear and sanity with the time in the car. I didn't realize how much it sucked until my job changed a little and I went to a home office. Now my commute is about 20 seconds...unless I stop to make coffee or duke on the way...then its a little longer.

I'm a numbers guy so before I started down there I put everything into a spreadsheet and put costs with the fuel, wear and tear on your vehicle, whats your time worth, etc and compare that to what the extra money the drive will get you. Good luck!

In the summer its about 40 mins, and in the winter it should be 5 mins. Sad thing is I get a NICE pay increase for the winter job and it is a much happier life. Same company too.

i walk about 200'. i can tell you that a commute like that would be hell. i drove 60 miles 1 way to school for 2 years.

I commute about 500 miles over to north dakota to work 14 on 7 off, long drive but im making money so i guess it works.

I have been working from home since the end of January - it has spoiled me.

I have had hellish commutes in the past - and it gets old, especially if you are dealing with stop and go traffic. If the traffic is moving it isn't as bad IMO.

Anything under 30 minutes is OK, more than that I start to get aggrivated.

About 40 feet one way. Only traffic jam I encounter is if the wife and I go for a cup of coffee at the same time:D:D

Been working from home for 11.5 yrs now, used to do 40-80 mile one way commutes when working construction and yea it gets old in a hurry!!!

I been to ND where are you finding a heavily populated area. When you say that I think a few million like chicago or dallas.

Just curious.

No kidding I was wondering where around Jamestown it wouldn't be 60 miles one way;)

I have a 25-30 mile commute depending on where I park. Takes about 25-35 minutes to drive and it's not bad. Good unwind time before I get home. Course when it snows and the wind is going it sucks and takes longer. Or when it's planting and harvest time with all the farm stuff on the road:mad:
