How do I fix a truck heater fan?

Hey guys, I got a 98 silverado. The problem is the fan control knob, ya know the high, low, off switch. It works about 2% of the time. I can be drivin along, and boom it comes on, sometimes it stays on and I can switch to high or low, other times I switch it and it dies again. I need to fix this before the 30 below mornings are here. Do I need to replace something or could it be a loose connection somewhere? any help is good. thanks guys....:beer;

Do you have it pinned down to the switch itself? Look for one on ebay. The little contact ring thingy fell out of the switch for the fog lights in my truck... $200 part from mfgr, I think I spent about $40 and 30 mins to install it.

I had a similar situation in my 94 Jimmy, after replacing the fan I found that is was a loose connection in the control, It seems the bumps were causing the contact to be broken. I put in a paper shim (bubble gum wrapper) to hold the switch in a spot that it maintains contact and good to go.
