I was just wondering how cold does it have to be out before you wont go out on a ride? We here in south dakota are going threw a little cold snap this week, highs are supost to be around -5. Myslef anything below 0 I usualy dont ride, other than that its a go.

I have went out riding when it was negitive 10 as the high in the Big Horns..As long as you don't break down and you pack warm stuff your fine!!:D:D

January '97 we spent 3 days at Lake Mettigoshi (ND-Can. border)
The HIGHEST temp we saw was -24F

last year in w. yellowstone we went down to the running bear and it was -55 we waited until it warmed up to -25

second year I did the tok to dawson trip(200 miles one way) it was -68F. at 7am when we took off..at 11 am when we stopped in chicken for fuel it was still -55F..that was a cold ride....normally I will ride all the way down to -30 even -35..but you dont stop much..and your very careful about abusing your stuff.........

I rode last weekend in -10 F temps, not too bad. Cooke City was -39 F a couple years ago, that was cold. When your eye lids freeze when you blink, its almost time to say too cold.

I dont think so mafesto..I think marv-1 rides colder stuff then us...that 1 trip was cold..dang cold..in the first 10 miles we must have stopped 5 times..everyone putting every peice of clothing on they packed...once we unplugged headlights so handwarmers got full voltage it was bearable(plus electric face sheilds worked better as well)

Rode last weekend when it was -15, walked into a heated shop with my helmet on after the ride and had a nice 1/8 inch thick layer of ice on my helmet. I was cold but all i had on under was jeans and a tshirt.

I've gone when it was as cold as -30 before, once upon a time I don't think it could be cold enough. I went a couple of years ago when it was -15. Anymore, 0 is about my limit.

Now, if I am out on a trip and spent money on a hotel, time off work, etc, I'd go down to -30.

Rode around in Stanley Idaho last year and it was -15 when we hit the hotel. Next morning it was -44 at breakfast and we watched movies most of the day. Went out at around noon and it was still -25, started our Apexs, took a little to get the turbo going but it did start. Woke up the next day to -25 and had to head home. Rode about 10 miles out of town and the temp was 25, said I'd never ride that cold again.

Cold is cold but if I remember correctly, for every 1,000 foot increase in altitude above 6,000 feet, the suns intensity increases approximately 7%. Makes a big difference in regards to the impact thermal warming has on the body.

However, I think it was Blu Du or Aksnowrider; -68... Crazy!

Chaos

-10 is my normal cutoff, but we rode in -17 last week (the weatherman was wrong about the area we were headed to, and we were there, so...)

We stayed comfortable at the -17 temps, but I'd still rather not ride below -10 again. And my preference would be for about 10 above. That's about a perfect riding temp.

Uhhmm, no. Coldest I've been out riding is about -40*F, was damn cold, plus the windchill factor as we have that out here too. That interior temps are colder, but we have humidity and usually a cold north wind.
I usually don't ride when I hear a clanky-clank-clank when I walk out in the morning(that's when my nuts freeze up :face-icon-small-fro ). :D

"Clanky-Clank-Clank" Thats cold right there:) -10 is a good cut off for me. I've done it, but it sure takes the pleasure out of riding.
