I would rather have a sled that had 8-10HP less but spanned it over a 800-1000 RPM band than something that peaked within a 200 RPM band. Once you drop out of the very small window of peak power, your clutching would be off and you would likely be down at least 5-10 HP from the peak anyway. You will struggle to keep RPMs within a narrow band and this makes clutching far more difficult.
Sometimes the "highest" HP isn't the one you want.
Something to think about.

After a year they are beat? Are you kidding me? There are plenty of M's with 3000+ miles on them and have had no major chassis or engine problems, that sure isnt a thing an xp summit rider could say. I think you are getting it confused with the XP which is one of the least reliable sleds on the snow. The chassis isnt built to be rigid it is built to be light and that is exactly what it is light, and it wont hold up. I sure havent heard of any M series sleds have their tunnels collapse have you? Doo gained weight this year because they had to beef up their sleds, they werent holding up. So to me its pretty obvious which sled only holds up for a year.
Good thoughts but, by looks of the couple of dyno charts I've seen on the new Cat it has a some what broad peak power curve compared to some others. See the MXZ 800 spike on this chart?

You want data and we give you data and of course thats not the right data. All the details are on dyna teck research. Independent dyno company. Being such a data guy I am sure you are a paying member of dyno teck and there is a more comprehensive write up on the dyno runs. The data is out there and I agree seeing and feeling this new motor is going to be the desiding factor in how good it is. But you want data and there is data and the data looks inpressive.

dude...lol. I ride cats because I grew up on them but everyone makes good ****. I'm just waiting for the ladies in the red skirts to chime in to get this party rollin. They will need 200hp to keep up with the XP's!
