Homemade balloon got loose with 6 year old on board

As for the father, I feel for him. I would be devastated if not suicidal if my son was killed in something I built

It'd be tough, the dad seemed a bit out of balance in the first place, he struck us as being bipolar/ manic depressive, but that's a TV show, hard to judge someone from 1 hr of their life with tv cameras in their faces.

Hope he's just hiding, what a terrible thing to bear if he fell out.

My kids are out today. Parent teacher conferences this week at most schools. But I would think these kids are most likely home schooled. If you had seen this guy on wife swap you'd would know what a nut job he is.

Yeah, I'm pretty whacked myself, but he was definitely off kilter.

They seem like the type of family that would pull the kids from school a lot, not a horrible thing, but that would explain the kids being home.

HLN reporting the balloon was intended to carry a small payload of instrumentation in a plywood box hanging below.

A Weld County deputy has reported seeing something fall from the balloon. Now I pray that a miracle happens. Whack job or not, kids don't deserve to die, EVER!

Growing up in Utah we had fall break, it coincided with deer and elk hunting seasons. that was when a large majority of families still hunted.

Now it is used to comp teachers for miscellaneous time spent on the job outside of the classroom.

A picture was just televised of a small box falling below the balloon. If so, then they should locate it soon and this story comes to a sad ending. They are searching the area now. Sounds like one of the brothers may have un-tied the teathers and set him loose or possible the jostling of him getting in pulled the tethers loose.

He was just messin' around and "accidently" unleashed the balloon & is now hiding because he knows is ^ss is grass.
