Home made lefty throttle?

Has anyone tried to build there own lefty throttle? Ive seen some creative home made gauge cages what about throttles? I thought a bike store with some cable and brake lever might work but thought I would see if anyone has done this before I try. I ride 09 HCR thanks. Don

I've made mine own also. bike lever that just runs the right side throttle. i can get you some pics tomorrow. the way it is tied in to the right side is that i just made a small angled piece that hooks to the right throttle and when you pull on the lefty it just runs the righty. i know that the pics will answer all your questions.

I bought a $20 goldfinger bmx lever in black, and $6 worth of brake cable and sheath. Ran the cable down to the throttle on the engine instead of working the right throttle. I had to clip the wire for throttle safety, but it works great otherwise. I'm hoping to do the same to my new M8.

Got my lever off ebay for about 3 bucks, used a mini bike cable and copied the throttle lever on the right side from my wifes Goldfinger -- works great

I never liked the Goldfinger type lefty throttle, I was always afraid of the right throttle attachment getting hooked on the bushes.
The one I made pushes the right throttle instead of pulling, I don't have a picture right now.

I made leftys for couple of earlier sleds and took them off when I traded them in for liability purposes and that I was too lazy to make new ones. Presently on my wife’s 2005 M7 and my 2009 M8. I had hoped to get a split ring bike brake lever to use so wouldn’t have to take grip and warmer off but couldn’t figure how to make an easy safety so stuck with the standard lever. I would strongly encourage some sort of safety (especially for loading)

CAREFULLY remove left rubber grip and hand warmer. (I cut the grip and replaced it after installing brake lever. )
Picture of flat metal for right hand throttle attachment.

I found a couple of brackets in hardware store that I preferred that I could cut/grind modify to give me a 90 degree thingy for strength and easy to put cable thru. When using right hand throttle, the bracket will allow the cable to easily slide thru. The length of the bracket from the throttle lever to the lefty cable probably 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" or so. (didnt measure it) Not too much but will still give you most of throttle movement.

On my 09 the throttle lever pin seemed a little too short to re-attach with the added bracket so I used a long (3/16 I think) bolt instead. Just make sure you do not tighten it too much and that the throttle lever is plenty loose. I had some starting problems for a while because the micro switch in the housing wasn’t making proper contact.
Hope the pics help.
