HOLY CRAP!!! Avalance comes off Mount Jumbo and down into Missoula, MT

We lost our lake house to flooding.
Always a possibility living near water, which is why we had flood coverage.

It should not be a complete surprise to have avy damage when you live at the base of a mountain in snow country. Again, it's why we carry insurance.

We certainly do not need any type of government intervention/protection.
They have enough things to F up right now.

I totally agree in general on the government involvement thing....but avalanche rating is just kinda the norm, in BC anyways. Highways, logging roads, developments, etc, all have to be rated if people are working or living near a slope like that.

I only mentioned it because it sounded like they were trying to blame the snowboarders. Even if they triggered it, they are not the "cause" IMO.

They decided that the snowboarder did trigger it.
That mountain is closed to human activity in the winter for elk habitat (the mountain is city property.

I can't see how they can ticket him for CAUSING the avalanche, but I think he'll be ticketed for being on the mountain.

Very crazy! By far the most snow I have seen in the town of Missoula in my life. Only lived there for 5 years though I have been visiting for what seems like forever. With this on the news you can only imagine what the ol' lady thought about us riding up Lolo last weekend...

Yeah, we went on Sunday. People looked crooked at me when I said I was going.
