hmk vs klim gear

i know this was brought up a while back but i couldn't find the thread.

i am looking at getting new gear this winter but can't decide which to go with, klim or hmk. i like the look of hmk better but klim has always had good rep too. i know customer service is good with both & neither one is available in my area so i will be ordering them online.

looking for some opinons on the product themselves please?????

Go with the HMK or take a look at the Scott gear. Our riders have switched from Klim to either Scott or HMK and have really liked the change - they prefer it to Klim. Both compaines are great and you wont find better people to deal with at Scott or HMK!

Like you said all in all, day in day out, they are both (HMK and KLIM) superior apparel and performance riding gear suppliers. For the volume of business that they both do it's amazing how universally HAPPY their customers are! That is across the board including dealers, distributors, and retail consumers.

Last season was the first season offering from HMK for apparel. I had the unique opportunity to join HMK as a performance partner in testing their new products in the field and reporting those results to you the consumer as well as to HMK the manufacturer for an opportunity in improvement. I've used and endorsed KLIM gear for years and was clearly satisfied with the quality and performance of their product line. I always want the ultimate and had concerns that I might be making a personal sacrefice with this project. One year later and I have been nothing but thrilled with my experience with the HMK line. Yep, I got the product for free...but after I used it I BOUGHT AND PAID FOR THE PRODUCT FOR MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I've also risked my reputation endorsing the product and the HMK company as a whole. If I had to go out and spend the money on new apparel or boots I would have zero issue calling HMK and ordering up.

now you are asking for direct suggestions.....

My personal favorite is the "Stealth Jacket and Pants" without the liners setup for deep powder cold weather riding and the Tech Hoody and Stealth pants for warmer rides and spring. I also rode with the regular TECH Jacket over my BWEAR and it was a nice mid level performance combination. Always dry, always warm, and always very comfortable...70 plus days in the field.

Also note that bar none including my gortex KLIM boots I LOVE THE PRO BOA FOCUS II boots. I spent over 700 hours in them last season and they are still good to go! Boots are obviously a little more of a challenge since everyone has a little different idea of what they like but universally those boots were great. I experienced warm...dry....easy to adjust...super comfortable after break in...super high performance on the sled (support function durability) plus they look cool!

HMK was at the show, you should have gone over and looked at the product. They have great gear!!!! I like them both and both have great service, but HMK is my fav at this time....great LIGHT product!!!!

kristy, i did go check them out & also found some klim but i just can't afford any of it right now so i didn't get anything there. after seeing them in person i am leaning toward hmk but just thought i'd see what others have experienced. i wanted to see them first before purchasing so i'm glad i checked them out at haydays.

Maybe I missed it but I was looking at the HMK and KLIM stuff in the shadetree mag I got the other day.

I noticed that no where in the HMK add did they say their boots were water proof, water resistant or anything. The only thing I noticed was they were good to -40f. But the KLIM's nailed it with waterproof guaranteed.

Just an observation and I may have overlooked it.

I can say the HMK's that I have see others have, leak water like a siv.

HMK has new gear on their site. Good thing I waited to order, some interesting new jackets and pants. Dunno which i want now!!!

I use Klim with Hot Chillies underneath. I love them. Did not even get cold in -20 and riding. I do water proof it every 1 to 2 yrs with the stuff that Klim uses to water proof all their Gortex. They also recommend that it be dried in the dryer to refresh the water-proofing after washing them.

As for boots though, it is HMK. I liked my Sorels, but my feet would get cold. My feet are never cold in my HMKs. They are water-proof, but I have had them soaked (water will come in from the top) and after about 20 minutes, my feet were warm, even though they were very wet. I am not sure about the new boots, but they have to be even better than his second year boots, which is what I have. They still work great, so why move up.

They are both awesome companies. You will have to decide what works best for you.

the thing is, with the pro boas, the main factor that drove me away is the fact your feet get wet, and this seems to be a common conclusion with those that own them, and I am just thinking that if you get wet feet, it might be fine and warm for when you are riding, but god forbid something happens on the mountain and you need to spend the night which has happened to those in our group before, well your gonna be having one cold night in wet gear and probly be losing some toes. So I say stay dry before staying stylish, but thats just me

I had poor service from HMK and that was ordering direct from them over th internet, can't comment on the product but I was very disappointed with the service. Lots of people have had good luck tho.

Have Klim and I love their product, nothings gone wrong but I've only had Klim for one season so I can't speak for their service.

I can't comment on the rest of the hmk gear but the boots in my opinion really sucked, they leaked like a sivv and both boas broke within a season. I tried to get in touch with hmk but no success. I ended buying a pair of klim boots for the folllowing season and have never looked back. With the klim boots I never had wet feet all season. I also have had to pairs of klim pants and love them as well. I probably will never buy anything but klim or ski-doo's rpm max gear which I have found to be good as well.
