History lesson

I was a Minnesota flatlander when the first mountain sleds really came out. I bought a pair of 2002 800 RMK 151's and moved to Colorado. Those were pretty epic mountain sleds for the day. I moved up to an '05 M7, which had less power but would go so more many places, so much more easily. My '13 Pro had power and a whole new level of nimble on the snow. I think the Pro was as big a jump as any and left the competition behind.

I mostly appreciate the weight reduction. My soon to be purchased Axys will be a full 100 lbs lighter than my '02 RMK and have more power. In '02 you could get a 400 lb sled from CMX for around $30,000. Today they are less than half that.

I remember being at Tumbler Ridge hill climb in 91 and the new 700 wildcats having 2 inch plastic paddles. Pink and green ones and were unstoppable. Next was the 151 highmark from skidoo that could outclimb thundercats. Then the RX1 Turbos set the bar on a whole new level. Now the t3 174.

For motors id honestly have too say the wildcat 700 if you could get them to keep there cranks intact for more then 500 kms they would out pull most sleds up till around 2001

The sledheads photo annual has a similar article to this. They talk a bit about max maxedon who I swear wrote a book on "how to build your own fire breathing mod sled"
